Need some subaru advice Pls!

So here is the short and skinny. I have a 2.5L sohc in my 04 tutaru outback and have been searching for a replacement motor. Those are expensive and I found a local 2.5L but its a dohc. If any one knows or knows anybody on the forum that they could direct me to would be great, of weather or not I can swap those two motors out fairly easily without much in the way of wiring and computers.

Recommend 2.0 jdm motor and swap intakes...sohc to dohc is much more complicated and requires writing alterations etc along with potential ecu...

Yeah stay sohc. Thoes 2.5l in the outbacks are junk. They tend to oblong the cylinder and burn oil.

I'll second the junk engine 2.5

I just had a customer put in two engines with in 6 months of each other. Granted they drive 10k each month and didn't change oil like they should have but both engines burned oil pretty bad and one engine only had 35 miles on it. So they were pist but in the end they didn't want the extened warranty so they paid us twice for engine replacements. My advice, stick a new used LKQ engine in it. Buy the parts and labor warranty with it and dump it right after that quick.

I have fought this motor since I bought it last August and finally hit the point of maybe cut a fuel line and pull a Chis Farley "BURN BABY BURN!" Previous owner took less then feck all care of this car, and now I have issues to fix and didn't know about the insane price of these motors. With such a high, or to me seem super high priced motor I found a local 2.5L for cheap and just want something that's not the 83 Celebrity.haha

Wadle5 with being that I just now started putting pennies away for a new motor and will be a while un tell I can afford one. Would your friend now a good place to look for reasonable priced low milage motors in our area?

The good thing is that the engine is easy to swap out in this car. My guys ****ed off and had it done in one day and drinking beer by 5pm. So it can be done with out major pain in the ass moments.... The car we did was a 2012 Model Forester.

The 3.0 is a good motor for that body style. But in general stay away from that body style. I lost my ass on an 04 h6 outback. The value dropped soo fast. That's why I bought a toyota. I vowed never again will I buy a quick depreciating car.

Sidenote this happened in my 02 outback today on the way to work. 5 speed manual and still get 28 mpgs 25mpgs if I think I am Ken Block while driving.

The good thing is that the engine is easy to swap out in this car. My guys ****ed off and had it done in one day and drinking beer by 5pm. So it can be done with out major pain in the ass moments.... The car we did was a 2012 Model Forester.

I did have some issue with the having to jack the transmission up so the studs on the bell housing would unbind, which I prefer the old chevy if the bolts are free those pegs ant holding shit but some broken body parts. But all in all I think getting a new motor in will go pretty easy.

The plan right now is I have about $350 in spare parts for the bad motor that I will more then likely go onto the new motor. I will also more than likely pull them heads off to get a look at the cylinder walls and valves.

Yeah well it is a long story of who and tears of losing my old 4runner to red light running asshat and a fuel bill from the 4runner of $575 for a 5 day trip. So all wheel drive/4wd must have and oh looky here Subaru's bread like rabbits up in the mountains, Colorado area ill do that. With that I did a mechanic no-no (bad mechanic no scobby snack for you) I let my mini me make the choice. I know what the hells wrong with you I know. So yeah this will be the last Tutaru I own. And I am counting every penny I find on the ground so I can get back into a runner.

Nice dude. I am anxious to be able to or really be able to afford to put a motor in that dang car so I can finally too see the odometer move. I am starting to think it doesn't work or maybe forgot how. Oh or it will be like the very elusive sasquatch bounding out into out of focus meadows and hiding behind stripped out blocks. That's probably it.




Do you all know about the torque sequence on the 2.5 head? Because my book is saying 8 steps and extra 90degrees and I am calling bullshit. I am not an engineer but 56ftIbs seem that should be close to enough.
