Need to Vent

i know I'm guilty of jumping on the v6 vs v8 people, or will it rub, or what lift should i get folks, but thats because the information is all there. I'm on a number of forums, and i was on this one for almost 5 months before i posted once. the info is all there, we know it is, thats why its frustrating when someone starts an entire thread to decide on something thats been covered already, sometimes even a couple days ago

and like [MENTION=93434]gshadow325[/MENTION] and others have said, this forum is very, very tame. on the polaris forum I'm on if you ask a question that is considered a "noob" question, theres potential that you can get banned or have your posting ability taken away. its pretty soft around here

in the end, i don't think anyone should take it personally, after all, it is the internet. :ranger:
 
This is honestly the most cordial forum I have ever participated in. Spend some time over at VWVortex or Bimmerfest and I am sure you would agree that this is a pretty laid back place.
 
i think the point is being missed in part. just because this forum isn't "as bad" as others, doesn't mean it couldn't be better. no offense meant by this, but there are several older folks who are on this forum who are just looking to tinker with their vehicles. having a teenager crawl down their throat probably kills their excitement. who are we to take that away from them?

i guess i had a hope that some folks might see this and rethink before jumping someone's ass for posting in a forum. i think it would be a safe bet to say most of us have started a thread that already existed because we didn't find EXACTLY the information we were looking for. the thought behind the new thread is that there are so many folks with the same vehicle, surely someone has come across this exact problem before.

i haven't had a negative experience here. i know the forum and know how to use it to find what i'm looking for. i spend a lot of time searching before i dare to create a new thread.

The "Lift and Tire Central (pics)... Post 'em Up!" thread is 230 pages. I don't know if there's good information in there, but I'm not going to take the time to read the whole thing, and it's hard to search within a thread. The "4th Gen Suspension Options/FAQ" thread is nice, but it doesn't have much info on wheels on the first page. It's an 85 page thread, so again I'm not going to read the whole thing. I have yet to find good information about the stock wheel offset, for example, so I gave up on getting different wheels.

i see exactly where you're coming from with this, and there are people on this forum, not always teenagers, who do tend to jump all over people. I've been guilty of it myself. however, i think you'll find that the majority of people who do post regularly, are the kind who are more than willing to help out and point people in the right direction, cordially. [MENTION=89791]preacher35[/MENTION] is a perfect example. i see him answering questions, welcoming new members, etc, and he is always nice and polite about it.

Hey at least this place is not as bad p*rate and Yot*tech for internet bullies and trolls. Plus it's the internet you need to wear big boy pants and read and take everything with a grain of salt.

x2...if you want to experience grown men with sticks up their asses, go to pirate 4x4. I never got around to posting anything over there because the first few threads I perused were by newer folks simply looking for help. I'm no expert, but I wouldn't bother asking those members for help because they seem to fancy themselves as "delicate geniuses" who shan't be disturbed, if I can use a Seinfeld reference. As someone said earlier, be reasonable. Most everyone on this forum is willing help or not say anything at all...that goes for each of the Gen thread's I've been a part of.

On the other side of the coin, as preacher said....the search function on this site is less than ideal. It can render search results that are completely unrelated. So there are times where you can search and not find your answer. But as long as you have tried searching first, you shouldn't get any kickback. BTW, will FJ coils swap into my 04 runner??

it's one thing to not believe everything you read on the internet. it's another to be berated for asking an innocent question on a forum. i guess access to a keyboard and the internet gives you a license to be a d!ck. you wouldn't have to wear your big boy pants if we showed a little respect for the new guys. we were new guys at some point too, and not just to a forum. you were new to a job, to a school, to a team.
[MENTION=46730]MONTYMTB[/MENTION], that guy still only has 7 posts. while we see those posts often and know how many folks are running 5100's this guy is clueless to that. how do we know so many people are running them? this forum. those folks post that they have them or have asked questions about them.

@Sungood, think about how much things have changed since 1995. i'm not old by any stretch, but look at the change in how kids treat elders today. i could see a change from when i was a sr in highschool to the freshmen. it's a sad truth, there is little respect left for each other.

I doubt it's the last time we see a sarcastic post, but I think most would agree with you on this sentiment. I know that I don't get any enjoyment subjecting someone else to trial by fire. :flame:

I'm certainly not one to get on folks about such things, and I try to help out as best I can with my limited knowledge. I've only gotten on to a couple folks in all my time here, and they totally deserved it - in my opinion anyway, and it wasn't about not searching for answers.
Bottom line, there are certainly better options for suggesting that people search for answers than the way some folks go about it, but as I said in my earlier post in this thread, both things are going to happen - just the nature of the beast.
 
People always rag on the NOOB because that's the way the circle of life kinda goes. It's like in the Forces you have FNGs who are constantly picked on by the rest of the guys until they fit in. Most sports teams I have played have had some sort of thing like that as well. If your that touchy, emotional and have a fragile ego the internet is not the place for you let alone any forum on the net you need to have thick skin. It's like school all over again:snacker:
 
This topic comes up all the time. This thread is not helping. This thread is in the wrong section. I am going to close this thready shortly if it doesn't do a 180.

That being said, a while back someone had suggested making a new member questions thread where you can ask questions that are easily answered through some due diligence and looking at the stickies. If you are lazy and don't want to search, that's fine, you can post in that thread. If you want to answer noob questions, you can, if you are extraordinarily bothered by noob threads, they won't bug you. But that way the threads will hopefully reduce clutter. I will put new member threads into that thread if they are along the lines of "how much lift do i need to run a 33".

There's no one way around this. There will always be two sides to this. So far I read nothing but mature responses. I like this and the tacoma world forum. Bunch of cool guys and gals.
I understand where you're getting at.

What is the 180 that needs to happen? I'm having trouble understanding what is wrong with this thread. As stated above, it seems to be rather mature responses so far as well as a few good ideas on how to address the issue.

I guess you're right after taking a second read - just a bit peeved that this keeps coming up - not even just here, in other sections too and its the same thing always and 2 opposing views and usually ends in disaster. Will keep it open till it gets closer to that point. On that note - what does everyone think of the above consolidation into one noob thread idea? I can make the thread tonight.
