Actually not true. You are limited by driveline angles amongst others. The most lift you can get is about 3" with OME or the like, then about 4" with Total Chaos plus an extra 2" with a body lift at max.

No way can you get production stuff that will lift like some of the trucks you see around running 8" plus lift.

Even money has limits for a double duty (off and on road) truck. Compromises always come into play.

Here is where i would start: (if you have plenty of cash and want off-road performance & looks)

1. OME lift...I would not get OME shocks. Instead, i would get Bilstein shocks to go with OME springs. OME reputation exceed their quality when it comes to shocks (from what i hear). There are other lifts, but OME is probably the next best proven thing to Total Chaos custom works. If you do decide to stay with OME shocks, then get the softer one from OME for the rear.

2. Bilstein shocks (or whatever you like). If you off-road, then Bilsteins should do well. Good reputation and performance for life of vehicle (or so they claim).

3. Tires...BFG AT KO 32". Some people can fit 275-profile tire. I would just go with 265/70/17. You can also get Goodyear MT/R or BFG MT. There are other tires that are good but these are the big names. Any bigger tires may need re-gearing...so far, no gears are made aftermarket for the 4runner. (I think that Goodtimes is looking into them.)

4. Rock sliders with nerf bars. Hanna makes good one (see: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=12510). I am sure that there are others. Shrockworks makes one too (http://www.toyota-4runner.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=17104&highlight=shrockworks). Hanna apparently does not make one for 2006 4runner due to different mounting points on '06 models. Not sure on this one...so, i would call Hanna directly.

5. Transfer case skidplate: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=19845. Goodtimes is also working on a full set...so look for him too.

6. Since you're lifting, then you may consider aftermarket bumpers. ARB makes good ones...but they are on backorder or something. Shrockworks makes one too.

7. If you get an aftermarket front bumper, then you want to consider winches. This is up to you...Warn makes good ones. There are other companies too...and all sorts of different types of winches.

For me, if i had a 4runner and wanted a lift, then i would do step 1-5. Bumpers & winches are still new to me...so i am not sure.

If money is not an issue, I'd highly recommend picking up an old 85 4Runner or SR5 Pickup and spending the cash to outfit that for all-out off-roading. That way, you can beat on the old truck on the weekends, but still have your nice Limited to tow it to the trail and drive during the week. Just my 2 cents.

Even better, if money is no issue, then i would get Jeep Wrangler Rubicon. Most important modifications are already done.
