Sounds like you are having as much success with the dealership as I have.

I haven't seen that adaptor. I checked out the website for contact information, and they are only open Monday-Friday. I will give them a call and see if this will work. My concern is this radio was designed to have iPod connectivity, so the adaptors they have won't be designed for these models. I will keep my fingers crossed!
 
Alright, we may have a fix for the iPod connectivity issue with the Pioneer and Alpine HUs. I contacted Grom (thanks trey99ek), and they say this adaptor will work:

Toyota / Scion / Lexus GROM USB/iPod car interface adapter

It is listed at $124.99. It connects through the "external CD port", see the Toyota/Lexus 03+ on this link:

They claim that it will allow iPod control through the radio. If this works, there is a side bonus; instead of just the iPod connectivity, you will also have the aux cable and a USB port (and an option for bluetooth if needed). So if you have an Android phone and want to play Pandora, you still have the option.

I am going to sleep on this tonight and decide if I want to order and try it out. It is not cheap, but according to the website there is a 30 guarantee. If this works, I may be the happiest person on this forum as I have been looking for a fix for some time now.

If anyone has thoughts or experience with product PLEASE let me know. Otherwise, wish me luck.

I take it back. I am tired of waiting. I just purchased the grom unit and ipod cord off ebay. 2% cashback through ebates.com
 
@ Trey. have you had a chance to hook up that cable yet? I am really wanting to order this head unit but seems like you guys have had some issues with getting it hooked up!

To my extreme disappoinment the grom adapter does not work. Instructions say to plug in to cd changer or sat port and control throughout that button. Well on the alpine unit there is only sat connection and the unit won't function. The ipod will charge but you get no audio communication back to the headunit.
 
Also for another odd reason my AUX is working without modification. Turns out my cable was bad making it play through only R or L speakers. I am still disappointed with the USB and IPOD connectivity. I contacted grom to see if they have any ideas.

I did a ton of digging to see if I couldn't find a part number for the cable... and I think I may be on to something here. The components you have in that picture look strikingly similar to those included with the PT233-47100 iPod interface kit for the Prius with navigation. Sadly, with the PT233-47100, you also get the ECU and subsequent harness for display and steering wheel controls. Those pieces seem a bit unnecessary for the non-navigation head units (or so I've concluded from pictures and installation procedures).

Now, I have seen this part listing and thought it might be just the harness (which is what I have truly been looking for), but I do not know for certain as it has lead me to sort of a dead end in research (no pictures/proof).

If this helps anyone on their searches, I would love to hear from someone who got lucky with a Toyota dealership. I'm going to test the theory of messaging the eBay user first, because the cable alone is looking to be $112.

I finally got a couple part numbers, thanks to Tim at TRDSparks. You'll need both the cable and the port.
Cable part #: 86203-12340
USB/AUX port part #: 86190-53040

I will be ordering these soon, and I will post up pictures for installation and verification.

So your AUX button still worked without any modification? Interesting. At least you still have the ability to play your iPod (I assume). Let us know what Grom says. I admit that I was worried it wouldn't work and selfishly waited to see what happened with yours. Sorry you had issues.

Yeah I don't know why, but the AUX is working. I an live with that, but I really want USB. I email GROM. They wanted a few pictures of the actual unit. I am doubtful of a solution. If it won't work I think I am going to put it in my wife's camry.

I am curious as to those toyota parts listed above.

I am going to install my HU and see if the AUX will work as well. Hopefully it does as I search for other options. I have been looking into the Toyota parts above, I still want a way to use the USB. This has turned into one hell of a process...

My only concern would be is the circuit board similar in the alpine unit.
