Here is my personal assessment.

1. Ordering a MT4x4 Pro Front End is really just adding a plate to sit on top of this (see pic). There are a total of 4 holes up top center. 2 per side by where the toyota emblem would meet the front bumper.

2. NON Pro bumpers can order their add on PLATE and then order the black grill from Toyota.

3. I don't know the additional plate will mount or sit (flush or not, etc) but take a look at the pic and you'll have an idea. It looks like it'll sit on top, not being a "smooth" look.

IMO, still all good... Not as CLEAN as some may prefer.

I personally think MT4x4 should've just gone with a straight "PRO" no cut front bumper and advise buyers to buy the black grill (top) from Toyota. or, manufacture their own.

Given that i just went through the installation. I find that it is easier to mount the auxilary mounting plates to the primary bumper chassis (winch mount) prior to mounting it all up to the chassis. Alignment, ease, would be simpler.



I installed the auxilary plates after the primary bumper (winch mount). It was a bit tough to align everything up so I had to unloosen the bumper (winch mount) and bust out with the airtool to get it all in place.



Those two black metal pieces are meant to sit by the power steering lines. I didn't use them. It is cut and angled to seat by the bracket on each side.



lastly, I'll note that I completed the install with extra BOLTS and other MISC. hardware.

Just got done installing mine. Overall AWESOME look, fit and improvement. I will go down the list of pros and cons.

Pros:
-They had it in stock and I had it in about a week (truck ship from Oregon to Ohio)
-Easy fit and fairly easy install* (see cons)
-It looks BAD ASS
-Great communication

Cons:
-2 medium sized bag of nuts and bolts and zero instructions
-4 extra parts aside from the obvious ones. I figured out the bumper support bracket, but not the hose guards (until i found this thread)..again, zero instructions
-the 8 bolts that attach the bumper needed washers to get a good bite. They weren't included, which isn't a big deal if i knew that before i had it all torn down
-There is a bolt that attaches the bumper support bracket that is not included nor was it in the factory threaded hole. Had to go to ACE to get that bolt and the above washers.

Overall, it was an annoyance not to have instructions, washers, and the 2 missing bolts, but in exchange for the bumper looks, design, and overall quality, I am happy.

One thing I did on this install to make the license plate less obtrusive was to mount it lower. Not sure how this will fly with the cops, but if you have seen how sport bikes mount their rear plates (under the fender) it's not bad all things considered. do it at your own risk. but with my windows illegal, i'm already a scoff law..LOL.

Next step is to spray the exposed bolts with truck bedliner for protection from Ohio salt and cleaner blacked out look. (grill not installed on picts. was in the process of spraying them with gun metal gray paint).

? How does hold up to regular trail use? Bumping rocks and such? Also how thick of material is the bumper made from?

It seems that these bumper threads never show detailed pictures of what might be left exposed within each wheel well. There are always pictures of it straight on or a distant side shot but never any close ups of what I would consider areas of importance. :shocked:

These do look nice however seeing more close up and detailed pics from other angles would be nice. Also would be nice to have some type of grill inserts so that there's a way to dress up the large cutouts.

Not sure how well it would look on a Super White though since the black doesn't mesh quite as nice as it does with Inferno, silver or MGM. Makes me wish I had those colors when it comes to having a bumper like this.

Bumping a 3 month old thread, but this is the nicest, cleanest looking bumper I've seen. Patiently waiting for the '10-'13 version so I can give you my money!

If you're going to get flex or movement from a frame mounted steel bumper, I would imagine the stock bumper would do the same to the headlights under the same circumstances.

The stock bumper cover is mounted to the body, and clipped just under the headlights. It doesn't actually mount to the real aluminum bumper, or frame at all. A frame mounted bumper will have considerable movement compared to the body.

With the bumper as pictured, it would impact the headlights, fender, and grill, but it does show how accurately it is designed and assembeled.

Wouldn't it be nice if the aftermarket bumpers had a little more fit clearances and say, maybe a rubber insert behind the bumper to fill/close/hide the gaps?
Then you wouldn't get the bumper to body flexing impacts.... maybe.

Had mine installed on my 2016 Trail back in September by Sierra Expeditions in Tempe, AZ. Looks great. One issue we can't seem to get fixed is a thump between the bumper and body when on rough roads. Doesn't even need to be dirt, just any rough surface.

Sierra Expeditions has been trying to get a response from MT on how to get this issue fixed, but never gets a call back. I'm about ready to chuck it and try something else if this doesn't get resolved.

is it contacting? frame flex? If you chuck it i'll come grab it from the scrap yard lol.

I had that problem with mine too. I took it back to the guys who installed it, and they fabricated a couple small brackets between the bumper and fender. Been noise-free ever since.
