I just got an 04 4runner sport 4x4. Ive got a little lift,285's, and some other small mods but Im looking to do more. Ive done some research but I havent really come up with much.

Im mainly looking into trying to get some performance gains now. I have a flowmaster 40 on it. The shop i bought it from said if i did 3 inch pipes i would have about an 8% increase in HP. Does that even seem possible? Also what other parts do you guys run besides SC/Turbos? Like intakes? I like in CA so im looking to try and get CARB approved things but if I cant I dont really mind.

My 4runner also has a spacer lift in the front and im not too sure what in the back. I was told though I cant really do much with the lift because I have that XREAS system or something? Im not really sure what its called. But I wanted to switch out the spacer to a coilover if possible.

Thanks guys for any help. Im open to suggestions on other mods you think I should do to!

Welcome! Need a little more info here. Engine? What you are going for? etc etc.
Sounds like you have the beg. of an off road aimed type vehicle. Sounds like you have the lift and the tires. So next should be armor. Rock sliders, skid plates etc. If you are going to go off road, you need to invest in recovery equipment as well. For performance, fully synthetic fluids, high quality aftermarket air filter etc. are good starts. If you have the V8, chopping off the resonator is a great idea. Sounds like someone may have already tweaked the exhaust so maybe all this has already been done. Again, mostly depends on what you want to get out of your vehicle. This is a great place to see what others have done, or issues they have come across. Welcome and good luck!

Thanks for the reply!

My 4runner is the V8. Im going to off road a decent amount but I dont think enough to go for a bunch of skids. I may get some good rock sliders soon though.

For performance, I already have full synthetic, a KN Drop in filter, and the flowmaster which is dumped so I have the resonator removed.

All right! You pretty much have the exact same set up then that I'm running now. I frequently post guided SUV trail runs here, so remember my name. Since we live near each other, if you see a blue lifted 4Runner...wave!

unless ur xreas is leaking id wait to replace it, just remember that u cant just replace the one that leaks & it costs big $, it would be cheaper to just rip it out & replace with another setup of ur choice, OME,TOYTEC, ICON, RADFLO, etc. but id get sliders now & be prepared to upgrade to better skids after the stocks get too hammered.

as for your XREAS suspension you can remove it and put in new coil overs and rear shocks and springs. im guessing you have a rear spring spacer because of the XREAS. anyways a short definition of XREAS is a suspension system that is linked to each other and provides a more sportyer ride that does not create much body roll. usually they blow out after 60k to 70k miles and if you wanna replace it its expensive from toyota or free from somone on here but if you plan to offroad dont replace it just put new coil over and rear suspension in. congrats on the new 4runner btw!
