I know this isn't tech, but thought I'd share it with my fellow 3rd Gen'ers, rather than over on the off-topic section...

For those who don't know, I'm a huge Fight Sports Enthusiast! I've been training in Boxing since I was 14, and in my adulthood, starting training in Kickboxing. I used to compete in Full Contact Kickboxing and had 2 Amateur fights, before I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis and having 5 major Bowel Surgeries.

I've always loved watching fights, and loved training and participating in competitions even more. I'm getting older now, and after a 4 year layoff, I decided to start training again. Nothing serious, just trying to get back into shape, and maybe even Spar with some fellow kickboxing again!

Anyway, I bought this house with a small garage, and decided to use the space for not only working on the 4Runner, but also double as a workout space.

I've got 300lbs of cast iron weights, some dumbell bars, and barbells, a chin up bar, my Heavy bag and a double end ball.

Here's a couple of vids of me using the heavy bag and double end ball....be nice folks....I'm nowhere as good as I used to be....and really out of shape...so don't laugh too loud when you see me getting tired!

Again...I'm out of shape....but hoping to get back looking a little like this again...

Anyway....the real reason I posted this thread....I got another piece of equipment for my Home Gym.......A Speed Bag!

With some practice....I might just be able to train like I used to! :boxer: HA HA HA!

Awesome man! I'd suggest starting with some long cardio runs but it's pretty cold where you live and I imagine getting colder each week. At least you have a space to do your lifting.

Good luck with the training :)

Nice addition! I had one in the garage at my parents place growing up and it was both a great workout and stress reliever.

Thanks guys! It's been a long process trying to get back into it.....;)

Thanks man! I've been working on a 5km (approx. 3 mile run) so far my best time is 31min 42secs....... only ran it twice though.....in my prime I could run it in 25minutes.....

BTW, the weather up here has really been awesome this year! Even for fall, we've had little rain, and a ton of sunshine! Today...it's 21 Celsius....usually closer to 10 Celsius this time of year!

so basically your saying you got the crap kicked outta you?:hiding:

naw man im just giving you a bad time... i wish i had that kinda motivation, i dont work out at all and yet some how manage to pass my APFT easily, but this last one really kicked my butt, i was for a good 3 days after it, so im thinking i should start at least running 2 miles 2x a week and doing about 40 min a day of the basics... looks good, i have a bag up in my rafters i should get down and start letting it kick my a$$

HA HA! Yeah man....the disease kicked the crap out of me....actually almost killed me twice. I don't have a large intestine anymore, had a colostomy bag for a few years...but that's over now!

As for the 2 Kickboxing fights.....I won my 1st fight in the 2nd round via Knockout.....my 2nd fight I lost in the 1st round via corner stoppage (my coach got scared when he saw me stagger after getting tagged by the other fighter. The other fighter was alot more experienced than I was.....and was winning the round.....but I'd been hit alot harder by alot bigger guys....and came back to win a fight! It was a tough loss, I was pissed with the coach for quite a while...and hoped to go back and win another fight.....but my health had another plan....he he he!

Eitherway, I still love to train.....especially sparring....so hoping to get back and mix it up a little with some of the guys from my old club!

Great use of the garage.....your more than on your way to a routine with known results.

I'm familiar with your UC journey. A family members UC battle ended with an ileoostomy, after major doses of steriods could not control the painful flare ups. The ileostomies herniated three times, with the last reconstrutive relocation almost taking her life.

I'm really inspired by your strength, it takes alot to comeback from what you've been through. I know first hand.

All the best Fight, you'll certainly be in my thoughts and prayers.

Best Regards.......8sm

Mind if I ask what disease your talking about? From the sounds I'm assuming crohns? If so... I feel your pain! I spent new years and the 2 months following in the hospital with them not being able to tell me why my intestines aren't working. Biopsies showed 5 out of 7 positive for crohns and then it turned out to be HSP in the end
And for the workout part I suggest you get a book called solitary fitness. This book is amazing! Written by " britians most violent prisoner" Charles Bronson 34 years in prision 30 of which spent in solitary.

I'm exhausted now after watching! :) I love MMA as well. But I am smart enough just to watch from the safety of my Lazy Boy. Pass the Doritos, please.

Clubber Lang has nothing on Fightman80. No sissy gym there, that is for sure. No wonder I don't see an impact gun in that garage.

Kickboxing has to be one of, if not the hardest workouts out there. One of my sister's former BFs was one, until he broke his ankle. It took him close to a year to walk correctly.

It was a tough go...and I credit the training I did in the past to get me through the illness and subsequent surgeries. If it weren't for the mental toughness fighting gives you....I would have given up. Aside from the training....I credit my wife, my family, and last but not least.....God. I still have the odd bad day, but nothing like being sick.....and I'm more than happy that things are going well for me! Thanks for the prayers man!

The disease we're talking about is Ulcerative Colitis, it's in the same family as Chrohns Disease. The difference between Chrohns and U.C is U.C is a disease which affects the Large Intestine.....Chrohns is the small intestine. If I had to describe what the disease feels like, I'd say it felt like being kicked in the junk......ALL DAY. My symptoms started the day of my wedding, and worsened when I was on my honeymoon. By the end of the week, I was crapppin blood so bad, I had lost 20lbs in a week! They gave me steroids, anti-inflamatory pills, and anti-biotics.....and I got better, but within 6 months, I got so bad....they HAD to take out my Colon. I went from a healthy 185lbs to 129lbs. I had no choice....either that....or die. I had 4 more surgeries after that, one of which almost killed me by making go into septic shock.

you dont have to keep showing off that gorilla picture you know lol

It's my glory pic....my current physique is less gorilla like....and more like a baboone! lol!

Thanks for all the support guys! BTW, Ceasar....I do have an impact gun...it's in one of the cabinets in the background there....lol!

I'll have to get my X-ray glasses then.

That is quite the story, I don't know anyone here who has gone through as much. I lost my sense of smell after falling 500ft down a mountain on a mountain bike, but otherwise I am OK.

When I lived in Bolder for a year in 1998, a neighbor got a mild case of UC. She was 22 I think. No family history. She had heard that a warmer climate helped so she moved to Arizona to finish school. By 2000, she was only on two meds and was able to keep her colon. Besides the warm weather, she credits walking at least two miles six days a week to keeping the UC in check. I think she still lives there.

Yeah there's some research that shows that warmer climates have lower rates of UC and any other Inflamatory disease. I've read tons of articles and books on the subject, just trying to figure out why I got sick.....I was the healthy guy that everybody thought would NEVER be sick like that! lol!

In the end, it seems that people who have had some sort of inflamatory problem....ie: Asthma, arthritis, etc.....sometimes developpe Inflamatory Bowel Diseases like U.C. I have had both Asthma, Arthritis in both my knees and shoulders, and then the U.C! Weird huh?

The Asthma had me hospitalized off and on for the 1st Five years of my life, and was a problem for me until I started running in Highschool. The arthritis came on in the form of injuries from weight training (shoulders) and being overweight in College (knees) Those conditions are no longer an issue.

I am now permanently on Cipro (Anti-biotic) and Limotil (slows down your digestive system), but at least I can eat most things, and live an almost normal life. I tend to make more trips to the bathroom than most people, (less room to store digested stuff..lol), but at least I don't have an Iliostomy anymore! Having a bag stuck onto your stomach with your own refuse in it.....really not something you want for yourself....he he...

I've got a mean scar on my gutt now, but at least I'm alive, healthy, and happy!

Anyway.....gonna be trying out the speed bag on Sunday night after work! Can't wait!
