New ECU at 29k

My ECU broke/got fried!??
29,000 miles. Fixed under warranty. But still why???
I drove my normal trip to NY to Florida for vaca n see family.
All maintenance up to date. I installed new speakers and and under the seat AMP n Sub. I did have a small fender bender that I need a new front bumper- damage on front passenger side that I need to fix
- is there maybe a wire or ground wire in/around there damaged to break the ECU
Also, sometime after the damage my headlight bulbs broke, again low mileage for a toyota bulb.
Any advice??

In all the threads and perceived problems I have read here in the past six years I think you are the second to need an ECU. As Jeff said, sometimes shit just happens. In my world we live and die by the first sentence I just wrote.

Anything man made is susceptible to potential failure. Was your front end collision related to the failure? Maybe, but not likely, and the dealer obviously could not prove that (they would if they reasonably could). Anything could have happened as a variable in the ecm manufacturing process that could have led to the premature failure (faulty component/workmanship, the list goes on). That's why your vehicle has a manufacturers warranty. If there were no chance of failure then no warranty is needed. Actually, for most manufacturers the ecm has the best warranty coverage. Typically 8yrs/80k miles for hardware and software issues. At least that has been my experience with Nissan/Infiniti. Glad you got it cared for under warranty! Saved you $2k!

Your headlight failure would more likely be related to the front end collision than the ecm... sounds like like the dealer took care of that for you also! Awesome! See dealers are not always the bad guy

Thank you. I left Jeep because I wanted to get back to reliability with Toyota/4Runner and this threw me a left curve. Had 2 ECU's in my Jeep before 50K
So I'll chill n think long term but I'm def buying the Toy Ext warranty since I am at 29K.

Honestly, unless there's a pattern I'm with "Shit Happens".

I had a coworker have a laptop decide it needed to restart for some ****ing reason in the middle of a software update on a Tacoma... brick'd the ECU. Shit happens sometimes, glad it happened under warranty.
