So we have confirmed that this unit does work on the 07 Limited right? I read this whole thread and it looks like the few 07s that have tried it got it working with the new units that don't overheat.

It does work, but let me clarify the issue with overheating.
The unit itself does not produce any heat, BUT, it starts getting mad when it is heated over 40C due to "noise removing" resistor. To be honest, it is not required, but it is better to have it.

It was my fault that I advised at the beginning to install the unit near the heater tube - I am apologising for that.

There are several ways how the issue can be resolved (and was resolved in a past):
1. Change the unit location and move it away from the heater tube. I prefer this one. My unit is located near the fuse box.
2. Cut off the resistor. There are several runners in US running this option. We made that as we had no clear understanding what the issue was. I did not get any negative feedbacks from them.
3. Change this resistor to another one which is able to work over 40C, but it will make the unit more expensive. I would like to avoid that.

So, to summarize, there is no "new" unit which can be overheated and work.

Help, got mine installed finally but it's not working

I PM'd Kliv but thought I'd see if anyone else has any ideas what has gone wrong with my install.

My interesting results:
  • The installed test light (LED) blinks twice when I start the engine, otherwise it's always off.
  • Pushing "Diff Lock" locks the diff AND turns off VSC (per instrument panel light). This is true in 4WD Hi and 4WD Lo. Nothing happens in 2WD.
  • Pushing "VSC Off" button does nothing no matter what (Diff lock on or off, 2WD, or 4WD).

I used the FJ button that Kliv recommended and have checked and double checked all wiring against Kliv's documented instructions.

So, I think there is a problem with how the Diff Switch and VSC switch are wired together and/or wired to the system. I just can't figure it out since it seems I followed instructions... thinking I'm making a dumb mistake I can't locate yet. :shrug:

More likely you are right that something wrong with the way FJ button is connected. Lets find the issue first.
- Disconnect light green wire which you connected to FJ button, start the engine and go to 4WD mode.
- Find any ground point (for example the one you connected blue wire from device to) and short light green wire to it for 1 sec. It should light red LED and light VSC OFF light on the dash. If it is happened - you should triple check the way you connected FJ connector (especially the wire marked with yellow in step 12)

Let me know how it goes.

Hi Kliv, The short to ground test worked to get the red light on and the Trac Off signal.
So I looked at the yellow wire (from device) located behind the instrument panel from step 12 and it is definitely connected to the blue/white #17 pin wire. I used posi-locks and clearly see a good connection. Next?

On page 12 there is a diagram for steps 13-18 and mine is connected like that with all four wires of the "diff lock" button being tapped. I'm suspicious of that but seem to have followed instructions.... Thanks again

Ops. I actually meant yellow wire which is shown on the picture below step 12. It connects FJ and Diff lock buttons. Sorry for misleading. Nevertheless, it is good that you checked yellow one from device as well.

Now connect Light green to the FJ button and ground the wire from 4th pin of FJ button (it is yellow on the picture) to the same place you grounded light green before. After that start the engine and try the button. If it does not work - check FJ button connector. There must be something wrong with it. If it works - you can leave it as is OR try once again to connect it to diff lock button (yellow one).

If you have a bulb installed in FJ button - check the lighting. It must light when driving lights are on. If it does - 1st and 2nd pin connections of FJ button are fine.

FJ light does work (pin 1-2)
Connecting back the light green and grounding the 4th pin FJ wire did not work for the FJ switch to turn on "VSC off".
I checked how I have the FJ/VSC and Diff button connections.
  • Pin 1 FJ goes to Pin 1 Diff switch
  • Pin 2 FJ goes to Pin 2 Diff switch
  • Pin 3 FJ goes to green wire of Device
  • Pin 3 Diff switch goes to brown wire of Device
  • Pin 4 FJ goes to Pin 4 Diff switch
  • Pin 5-6 FJ not connected to anything
somehow this leads to the Diff switch turning on/off Diff Lock along with VSC Off when Diff is locked -- yet the VSC off/FJ switch not doing anything???
 
It is fine that Diff lock switches VSC off. It always worked this way. All pins are connected as per instructions.

That is not right. It means that your switch does not connect these wires. Final check before you disassemble the switch - try to short 3rd and 4th pins of FJ connector for 1 second - it should switch VSC off.

Hi Kliv, Thanks for all your help. As I suspected, I made a big mistake and was reading 1-6 backwards on the switch. I was sure the light was working on my drive yesterday but today not.... so I undid both switches and started over and discovered my mistake. Sorry for bothering you and thank you for helping me diagnose!!!

It was listed on e-bay, but there were too many questions about what this mod does with no reasonable output.
Long story short - "If sun rise every day - do not change the way it is coded"
