Just got the kit installed. Took it around the block and everything appears to be working fine. So here's some pics.

Can someone explain the benefit of keeping A-Trac on with VSC Off?

taken from an old thread but may help explain what you are asking.-- " if you are stuck in mud, VSC may interpret your attempts to get out as oversteer/understeer (especially if you are sliding back and forth). Therefore, it WILL cut power (dethrottle). Small amendment: "full engine power" here means the power which your truck can get with about 2K RPM. When you increase RPM over that limit ATRAC switches off automatically.
To summarize, switching off VSC allows you to use ATRAC as some-kind of diff lock emulation on low RPMs and achieve full power without ATRAC on high RMPs. Nothing will dethrottle in both cases.

That makes sense. I haven't gotten a chance to get her off road yet, or even near any gravel. But I also haven't heard the dreaded beeping when she loses traction and cuts throttle.
I guess I was thinking it would ride/feel similar to when you unplug the brake booster connector and the gauges lite up like a Christmas tree. Because then, I can break the back wheels loose even on pavement. Obviously only on a closed course.

So I understand correctly, the 05 V8 wih fulltime AWD and prewired switch connection, must use the same procedure Kliv and others produced to attain the VSC Off function properly, right? There aren't any shortcuts since the switch just needs to be hooked up to the prewired connection in the dash that allows this VSC Off mod work? I must still follow the directions of splices to attain function? Rounding up the splice connections and if not cutting any wires is possible I'd love to know...

I just got my unit in the mail today. I'm trying to get prepared before I start the work. If you have no soldering experience can you connect wires with the lil twist on connectors you can get at hardware store? I'm not very electrically inclined, so any pointers are greatly appreciated along with tools and extra parts that are helpful. I'm gonna be installing it on one of the empty slots near the steering wheel.

Just installed this mod yesterday. Took me about 3 hours, like others suggested i took my time and made sure i was making the right connections. Everything went smooth as could be and im glad i did this mod. With winter approaching im hoping for snow so i can abuse the hell outta my truck. Lol. All in all i would say its a moderate mod to do yourself if you just follow klivs directions. If you are interested in the mod but feel reluctant bc of what it takes to install i say dont be, just go for it, its well worth it. Whats the worst that could happen?

This is the only workable way, but it requires switching ignition off and on to get VSC operation back. What the switch you mentioned does - it switches off power for VSC module. All other parts go into "safe mode" after that as they cannot operate without VSC. The problem is that even ABS does not work in this mode.
Old Unit Working most of the time
Hi Kliv, I purchased your old unit back in 2011. Everything works as advertised. I have a 2007 v6 and am able to switch vsc off in 2w 4hi 4lo. When I shut off the truck I have to re-select vsc off each time. I do have the same issue as others where the truck doesn't like to be switched from 2wd to 4hi while your mod is activated. Too easy though, just deactivate your mod before selecting 4hi or 4lo. I'm very happy with the results. The only issue that I have is that the unit seems to shut off when it gets hot. Some days the vsc light stays on once selected and some days the light goes out without warning. Once it goes out on its own, I'm not able to select vsc off again. Some days I find that the vsc light will go out for no apparent reason when I have the heat on. When I defrost the front windscreen I think the unit gets a little hot because the dash is warmer then normal. I installed the unit behind the gauges as you instructed me to back in 2011. I think the unit gets hot and shuts itself off. I'm not sure if you put in a thermal protection device as part of the unit but that is my assumption of what is happening. If I don't defrost the windscreen and just use floor heat for example, vsc stays off and I don't have any issues. I thought I might of had a heat leakage issue behind the gauges but I checked and everything is fine. I'm still happy with the mod though. Just wish I could figure out why its shutting off. Its a weird situation, when the unit shuts off on its own and I loose the vsc light it won't reactivate even if I shut the truck off and re start it. Once I give it time to cool, everything works again. Any ideas?

I think I know what is happening. There is a resistor which is aimed to cut noises. As per specification, it should operate properly under 60C. I think it means 50C in reality. When the temperature goes higher this circuit simply switches off the unit due to changes in resistance of this item. I did not realise that it might be an issue as the unit itself does not produce any heat.
The recommended place for the install was chosen based on optimal wiring and you proved that it was not the best place due to heating.
I moved my unit down to the fuses box. That is simply because I have to test every new unit and need quick access to it. It automatically solved your issue for me.
I can replace this resistor with another one which should operate up to 110C, but it will increase unit cost. Don't like this idea to be honest.
It is simpler to move the unit away from the heater pipe... down to fuses box for example. It should solve your problem, but will require more wires.

I've had my mod installed for a while now, but haven't really played with it too much. The "VSC OFF" lights up on the dash as it should in any mode. Over the last couple of days I've tried some different things and have some questions about the parameters in which this mod actually stops the "nannies" from intervening.

More "testing" will be done, but I wanted to see if anyone had any detailed insight.
