New fine-grained VSC OFF Mod for V6 1GR

I'm sure I went over 30mph. Though i'm not sure it was then that triggered the lights to come on.

Is it possible to check, will it on the lights after 5 min if you do not go over 30?

Incidentally, unplugging the 2 pin plug under the hood that goes to the traction control system makes the truck behave in the same way (same lights, etc).

That is what I am saying in #130th post, but there is no way you can drop power on VSC with the mod. It seems that it went to the same mode itself due to other reasons. It might me speed, it might be internal timer task. Who knows what Toyota introduced starting from 2007. If we discover algorithm we will create special edition of the unit to work around it and fit post 2007 models.

Ok. So, it is not a speed... looks like some kind of self-check by timer inside '07 ECUs.
There are several options:
1. We can build custom program for your truck to have automatic switching OFF and ON with some defined interval. It will look like the same unit, but different program inside. You would need just to plug new one. No wiring work. I would expect old unit shipped back in this case.
2. Just ship all the stuff back and I will return money to your PayPal account.
3. Leave it as it is. I can return, say, 30% of the total cost as compensation for your assistance and valuable information about 2007 model issues.

Ok. Then I need you to check the following:
1. Is it enough to switch off the unit for 1 second to have no illumination on? (By switching off I mean push button, wait one second, push it again). If not, what delay should we program?
2. What is the safe time interval when it works? 2, 3, 4 minutes? We can program any.

We should be very careful with the program definition as mistake will mean additional shipping and 3 weeks waiting. That is excluding time to build new unit.

I am not sure how long, in general, it takes for all the lights to come on. It does seem to have to with something while driving, though have not been able to determine if it's a particular speed.

When I start the truck and press the "trac off" button, the VSC off light comes on and will not cause the other lights to come on later on. It all seems to function correctly, meaning, the brakes don't kick in, but the skid light comes on when sliding and the power is cut.

I went off road like this yesterday and even after about an hour still no extra lights. But, when I turned it off (back to factory setting) within a few seconds all the lights came on and stayed on until I turned off the truck. I cannot get the extra lights to go off by just pressing the VSC off button. I have to shut the truck off, similar to unplugging the harness like some of mods have done.

I have noticed though that it still seems to be generating "pending codes" even with the VSC off button pushed. I have a scan gauge plugged into the OBD2 socket. There doesn't seem to be a difference whether I have pushed the button or not I still get the "pending codes", no actual codes though.

Aha! You got all lights on due to temporary error codes. VSC switches off in this case. On power down those codes go away and no lights appear with power on. In other words ECU determines that something goes "unexpected" when mod works.
You said that you pushed "Trac off" button. Do you mean the button which works with our mod or you have other "Trac off" button?
Did you check that violet wire is connected to the right place?

Correct, the button I push is the button that goes to your mod. As far as the violet wire is concerned, I connected it to the blue/red wire attached to the 4wd ecu on the right hand plug if you are looking at the sockets on the ecu. This was located on the passenger side footwell.

I do think that there is something that triggers the lights to come on when driving. I had the truck idling for several more minutes past the time it would typically come on (maybe 10 or 15 mins) and the lights never came on.

I found the difference between 2007 and 2008 years. Wiring diagram is attached. You may find that for 2007 only 2WD models have Auto LSD button which is replaced with VSC OFF button for all 2008.

Interesting test would be if you grounded 43th wire (Red with White) for a while (like momentary button does) with the mod OFF. The connector is located in engine room. Please refer the picture attached. No worries - it is safe. The worst thing which might happened - no results at all. From the other side your ECU might switch off VSC if it supports this option. Note that engine should work while checking.

Did you get illumination during the mod ON or you always got it just after switching it off?

Are there any chances to read temporary error codes? OBD scanner for example?

If you think I ought to try try this, then I'll give it a shot. I'm not sure what you mean by illumination et al. If what you're asking is when I got all the lights it is when I am not using your mod.

1. If I get in the truck and press your mod's button right away I get "VSC off." Nothing else happens, no extra lights. It all seems to work as you have described.

2. If I get in the truck and do not use your mod I get a bunch of lights a few minutes after driving.

3. If I use you mod (before all the extra lights come on) and then press the button again to deactivate your mod I will get lights in a few seconds to a few minutes.

Oh, and trying to read the codes is next to impossible. It seems to generate a lot of them, and I haven't been able to slow it does to get an idea of what they are.

By "illumination" I mean bunch of lights.

Now it is clear. Forget about 43rd wire grounding. It looks like you have some issues in VSC system which generates error codes. It does not happen while the mod operating as it switches off VSC.
Did you have the same issues with bunch of lights before the installation?
Does it happen if you simply unplug the unit?

It seemed to be generating the pending codes while your mod is active too, though I don't get the extra lights. I did not get the any lights before the install. And I haven't tried unplugging the mod, but I figure it'll give some sort of error since there will be an open cut wire (the green/red one) at the cluster. I thought about jumping that wire together on the connector while we were troubleshooting this issue. Since all the other wires were just tapped/spliced that would be the only wire that would need some sort of connection.

Those wires should not cause problems. The only issue would be lack of center diff lock light. Could you please unplug the unit and try.

Sounds like something wrong with your unit. Please ship it back (Just the unit) and I'll check it on my truck. I'll take all handling costs.
I hope the problem will be reproduced and its just one item error rather than 07 models incompatibility. If we resolved it I would ship new unit to you.

I believe I'm experiencing the same problem. The mod worked (vsc off light only) then after 15-20 min of driving all three came on (vsc off, back track, and the picture of the car skidding) my 4runner is a 2005. Could my unit be bad too?

Does it light these three if you do not turn VSC off?
