New fine-grained VSC OFF Mod for V6 1GR

So just to clarify on this mods function compared to the 08' OEM switch...

From what I understand the 08' OEM switch has 3 modes;
1. Normal (all systems are on)
2. TRAC-Off Mode (TRAC, which limits engine RPM during wheel slip, is disabled). Click button to activate this mode
3. VSC-Off Mode (both TRAC and VSC are disabled). Hold button for 3-5sec to activate this mode

And I guess in TRAC-Off Mode that if you go over 30MPH it automatically switches off (TRAC turns back on). TRAC-Off Mode can be turned on and off while moving (slower than 30MPH) while VSC-Off Mode can only be turned on while stopped but turned off anytime.

Now for your mod, is it only capable of Modes 1. and 3. and doesn't have the ability to only turn off TRAC while leaving VSC on?

Also, can the VSC-Off Mode be switched on and off while moving?

We have slightly different behavior as we can only emulate new '08 ECU abilities using functions from old one. Old ECU can switch off VSC system in case of central differential locking, but it is not the same as (3) item for '08. It turns off TRAC, it lights "VSC OFF" light, BUT it remains ATRAC system operating (which is part of VSC). So, it is similar to (2) item for '08 rather than (3).
When I was thinking about implementation for 3 modes, I found the thread http://www.toyota-4runner.org/4th-gen-t4rs/79426-disable-vsc-trac-abs-without-damaging-factory-wiring.html which explained how to achieve that. Unfortunately, switching VSC ON back cannot be implemented with our old ECU without shutting the car down (I failed to found a way at least).

So, to make the button work whenever you want I decided do not include 3rd mode. As the result you can switch ON/OFF VSC (TRAC in fact) while moving.

It does not switch VSC ON back when you go over 30MPH.

I think that clears things up for me.

So your mod just turns TRAC on and off rather than VSC?

Where as when the 08' turns off VSC (mode 3) it turns off both TRAC and ATRAC?

I'll definitely put this on the to do list but have a bunch of things that need to get done first (lift, wheel spacers, new tires, etc...) Will shoot you a PM when I'm ready to order one.

I finally finished installing Kliv's device! I took my time to strip, solder, heat shrink/tape, and rebundle all of the wires, so it ended up taking me a few hours. It seems to do its job, but I didn't really have a chance to test it out on a slippery surface... just a dirt road. I think it's a little confusing as to how all of the systems work and which this device is disabling. There seems to be some traction control still engaging and I think that the best way to test this will be to drift or to do donuts as it's supposed to disable the Stability Control system, right?

After doing this mod today all seemed to go well until I drove around for a few minutes. After about 5 minutes the VSC off, Trac skid light, and the VSC Trac light came on. It goes away after the truck is off for a few minutes but comes on again in another 5 mins. Any suggestions? This went into a 2007. All the joints are soldered.

Hmm... I'm wondering why it's lighting multiple lights. Do you have the original version or the new one with the connector? Any chance you grabbed a wrong wire somewhere or have an accidental connection somewhere?

That is interesting noticing. I do not think that there is some issue with the installation. It looks like VSC ECU switches off both systems for some reason.
It can happen when it looses power like in this mod: (http://www.toyota-4runner.org/4th-gen-t4rs/79426-disable-vsc-trac-abs-without-damaging-factory-wiring.html), but I do not think that is your case.
More likely there is some specific with truck year/type of VSC ECU. It might have some logic which we did not notice before. Keeping in mind that starting from 2007 Toyota slightly changed ECU location, there are chances that they tuned logic as well.

Do we have other installs on 2007?

And what happens if you switch off the unit for a second, say, on 3rd minute and switch it on again? Will it light TRAC Off on 5th minute? If not, we might slightly tune the logic to have automatic off-on every 3 minutes to fit 2007 trucks.

Yea it's the newer version. I'll go look at the install in a few and see if I got the wires right. I also tried a zero point calibration but I don't think that's the issue.

So an interesting thing I noticed today. If I drive around with the vsc off I dont get anymore lights. Yesterday if I didnt push the button I got three lights after 5 mins

Then it proves my theory that '07 ECU has slightly different algorithm comparing with '03-'06. It seems that you are the only 07 owner who did this mod. Other 21 guys have pre 07 trucks.
There is another thing to check: as unclebeansie wrote, newer ECUs switch on VSC back when it goes over 30MPH. What speed did you ride? What if your ECU switches on VSC back when you go over 30MPH and it conflicts with the unit?

I'm sure I went over 30mph. Though i'm not sure it was then that triggered the lights to come on. Incidentally, unplugging the 2 pin plug under the hood that goes to the traction control system makes the truck behave in the same way (same lights, etc).
