New fine-grained VSC OFF Mod for V6 1GR

Can't wait to try it out! We just got snow so I'm just having my first run in with the electronic nanny, it can be helpful but not always. As for now, Im just crossing my fingers and hoping this mod works. I will update as soon as I install it.

Just finished the mod a week ago, works like a charm. We got a big dump of snow, tried out the mod, lots of fun, was able to do donuts and 180's no problem, 2wd and 4wd. The t4r doesn't get mad and beep like crazy anymore. still has some, but way less throttle cutout. :bravo: Should come in handy this winter.

I think A-Trac does little cutout as it still operates, but it stops working over 2500 RPM.

I thought I read before that us 4WD V8 guys only need to purchase a factory switch, convert it to a push/hold style and wire it to ground out the blue wire on the traction control ecu to turn traction control off. Is that not correct anymore?

Yes you can just install the switch (with only slight mod to factory wiring) and it turns the vsc off, but in doing so it also gives you false indication of center diff being locked. I'm a bit of a perfectionist so I knew that would piss me off. Hense the kliv mod. Unfortunately it looks like I wont get around to installing it today because I don't have my truck. Hopefully i'll get it back tonight and be ready to install the mod tomorrow.

I got it installed to the point of being able to test it and it seems to be working great. I will do the final install tomorrow (hard mount box, hide wires, solder and heat shrink connectons), and start a new thread on it. Well done Kliv!

Thank you for the update TDDCal! Looks like the mod is applicable for V8 as well. Arr... I shouldn't put "V6" into the thread name...

First post and new member here. Just got my first 4runner this May. Mica gray 2004 Sport edition, V6, sunroof, aftermarket heated (not working at this time) leather seats. I'm extremely pleased with everything about the truck; except for, as many have deemed it, the electronic nanny.

I had my first run in with vsc this year in early Nov when we got our first snow, and while I can see some advantages to it at higher speeds, I already hate having it on 90% of the time. Thanks to Kliv for finding what seems to be the ultimate solution for the vsc-off mod.

I'd consider myself a pretty handy person, I've changed the brakes & rotors all around on my 4runner, as well as the spark plugs and oil (thanks to all who have taken the time to post the how-to's), but when it comes to electrical.....not my cup 'o tea (thus the still non-functional heated seats). So, once I get the vsc-off unit, hopefully someone out there can help me with the finer points when it comes to wiring it up.

I have plans to level out the front (probably just a small spacer lift) as well as the vsc mod, I'm pumped to do some customizing! This site and it's members are an invaluable resource, and I'm honored to be a part of the T4R community.

So, once I get the vsc-off unit, hopefully someone out there can help me with the finer points when it comes to wiring it up.

I did this install a few days ago and its worth every penny. Its not that hard for a handy person to pull off. Most important part is double/triple checkin the install instructions (second page of this thread) to make sure you cut/connect the right wires to the right places. Other than that its pretty simple, and there's a few off us on here that have installed it so i'm sure getting help wont be an issue, plus Kliv is very helpful as well.

There are 6 successful installations in US/Can. Moreover, 2004 V6 is the same truck I got. As TRDCal said, there will be no issues with helping at all.
Just to let you know that we have a little bit different NY holidays here in Russia. It lasts from 31 Dec till 9 Jan. I'd rather not ship before 10 Jan as I doubt that post service would work properly.
Anyway, feel free to PM me any time if you decided go forward with the mod.

Thanks guys! It's no problem to wait until after the 10th of Jan or so, it's likely I won't be quite ready to get it until then anyway. Hopefully, the weather here around that time that will be condusive to putting in the mod. Otherwise, I'm going to have to find a buddy with a heated garage.

It's actually kind of surprising that toyota waited to build the vsc off feature into 4runners until the most recent model years. It's almost like they lost sight of who would be using this kind of vehicle and how they would use it, and geared it toward soccer moms......quite disappointing!

It works for all years from 2003 to 2008. It is applicable for both V6 and V8.
