I've been reading for a while and learning about 4th gens on this site and others. I finally bit the bullet and will be taking delivery on Monday of a 2005 SE V8 4x4 with 95k miles. It's in beautiful shape and they are doing the timing belt, water pump, etc as part of the deal.
The only issue is the dreaded T-case leak but I knew about it and negotiated that as part of the deal. I will post more on that in the 4th gen forum.
Also, I wish it was a manual transmission...i.e. I wish they made the 4th gen with a stick. Sigh. I'm selling my '97 T100 5 speed for this 4Runner. I will be bumping my left foot on the floor while getting used to the auto.
I used to own a 1st Gen 4runner - 1989 5spd v6. Loved that truck- what a beast (a SLOW beast). My dad bought it new and I drove it throughout college. I miss that one still and would buy it back in a heartbeat if I ever see it on craigslist.
