New Mercedes SUV

Mercedes now has a 6x6 for only $457K.
Not a concept vehicle, you can order one if you have the money.
It has good performance and lots of ground clearance but looks fugly to me with the pick-up bed.
Maybe if it had a full length body it would look better.

That thing is awesome.. Don't know if y'all have a car buzz app but they covered this pretty well.. 8300lbs with 6 37" tires, 5 lockers, 6 resi shocks, hutchinson beadlock wheels and of course the g63 twin turbo 5.5litre v8.. Just wish they were $75K so I could start saving up, this is the dream truck imo. Think the white one looks better than the gray one tho! But the SLS electric drive is $450K, pricing hasn't been announced on the 'G66' but they said it'd be less than the e drive SLS.

Very cool - looks to have geared hubs (yielding amazing ground clearance) and compressed air piped directly to each wheel much like the Humvee, although it has solid axles.

Agreed that they'll become the ultimate status symbols in countries like Saudi, UAE, Kuwait, etc., although from my personal experience, those countries also have an established 4x4 culture -- a lot of dune racing, etc. So it's possible some may actually be put to proper use.

Actually I like this new truck, would make a good overland vehicle but I'm not taking a second mortgage for it : )

I think a quarter of that I could get a de-milled Ukrainian BTR-70 or BTR-80 that a local entrepreneur de-militarizes. It's amphibious to boot, and the NBC system can be left activated.

Soviet Armor :: BTR-70

It'll probably get better mileage too, although tire selection may be limited.

Nah, you'll get about 5 mpg with this thing, visibility from driver seat is terrible, reliability is below average and it's hard to get spare parts. Not mention that BTR recovery is not an easy thing at all, providing that anybody could get to the place you're stuck in to recover you : )

Oh scanny, you make fair points, but forget that I mentioned quarter of the price. The BTR gas engines were terrible by all accounts, but one could fit a Deutz or other top shelf powerplant in there, and get all the cabin creature comforts in there with cash to spare. It does have a big blind spot.

My point was that there are other vehicles probably better at everything that this does, other than meet bling standard in the Bahrain casba.

Even a new Unimog upfitted would come in well under that price, and would clobber this in everything but 0-60 and showing off how dumb one can be with his money.

Unimogs are great...but they are about as happy on the pavement road as this new Mercedes on a race track! This Mercedes may not be as capable as the best modded Mog in the world...but it is far more refined & comfortable with 99.9% of Mog capability. You would kick this Merc out of your bed???!!! Really?! I call BS on whoever that says it. If i had the luxury lifestyle to even have this as a my vehicle, then hell yeah!!

And if you care about gas prices, then this vehicle is not for you. Having owned a G-wagen, i can tell you that Mercedes/Austria knows how to build an all-terrain SUV. Mercedes ain't BMW trying to build an off-roader...they have the know-how for sure. Unfortunately, most people don't get past the celebrity image of a G-wagen...but peek underneath it and around it, you will see how much engineering goes into it...far more than any factory Land Cruiser i can assure you!

Actually, the price seems fairly reasonable. I would rather have this than Levus LFA or even a Bugatti.
