New Owner - Questions

New to the forum. I just ordered a 2014 Limited in Grey. It should be here in two weeks. As soon as I pick it up, I am doing three things.

1. Window Tint
2. Michelin LTX MS2 in 275/55/20
3. Lift the front end to match the rear.

With the front end lift, is the best way just to put in a spacer?

Any other suggestions?

Best way? Debatable. It really depends on your needs and what you're willing to spend. An adjustable coil over gives you more travel and better overall feel. It also gives you the ability to bump a little taller if you decide to lift the back a little later. The spacer is more than functional to get the right look and is capable of mild off-roading.

If you want a quick, inexpensive way to level your rig without messin with the XREAS suspension, go with the spacer. Can't wait to see some pics with that done and the new rubber. Should look great.

I did a Daystar spacer lift on my 2005 Sport w XREAS, and it looked AWESOME! Yes.. all caps awesome. it was cheap and kept the same great factory ride.

Its just enough life to set yours apart. Well, from everyone not on this forum at least, lol

Would you mind defining "mild off-roading?" I'd guess it means no boulder hopping but what else? And why?

@2013 Trail - I used to live in Arizona, are you familiar with Reddington Pass? Chiva Falls? If so, I would consider it pretty mild. I've done it in a spacer lifted 4 runner and spacer lifted tacoma only bypassing one area. The only loss you really get is when off camber and the extra couple of inches would mean your tire being in contact with the ground vs. in the air.

I am doing a full daystar lift on my TE. I ordered a 6pc kit that has a pre load and top out spacer with a 1.5" rear spacer. It should come out lifted and fairly level. I too run trails but nothing like rock crawling , more like fire roads .

I would guess going to 17" wheels and tires if your looking for more off road than street .

From what I understand, modifications do not affect your warranty unless the manufacturer can prove that your vehicle failed due to the modification. This excludes any modifications to the engine.

I have two spacer lifted 4Runners, an LE and a TE. I just went with the Toytec spacers.

I'm running both with 285s, pulled the front fenders forward and removed the mud flaps. I haven't had rub when I've gone off road, but that was mostly storming fire roads at 50-55mph, and the few times I've had to turn to lock I guess I wasn't getting full articulation...

Since you have a 2014, it maybe different after the refresh.
If you can look under your spare, see if you can find something that says "7J"

What's your tire size anyway? If it's the same as before the refresh, it's prob 7" wide.

It depends on a variety of things.
For wheels and tires - No. They would have to get an engineer to prove that, that's what caused 'whatever part' to fail.
Same goes for most things.

However, if you modify just about everything, than that's an automatic disqualification of warranty coverage.

If you add flood lights and switches and something in your power fails, they might try to blame it on that.

SO just all depends.

All depends on the tire shop. Tire warranty's are BS anyway. Not worried about it.

Interesting. I just want to do this for looks as I will NOT be doing any rough off-roading. I used Spacers on my 2008 FJ TT to raise the front end and it was awesome, no issues.

I ran spacers on one of my Tacomas for about a year with no problems also. Most people have no issues with them. The problem with them is that they take away capability from the stock platform (ability to bottom out w/o damage) in exchange for a moderate benefit of a little lift. Leveling it w/ 5100's does NOT take away the stock ability to bottom out without damage and provides the same mild lift benefits.

There have been people that were just doing some "mild wheeling" that unintentionally went off a big drop harder than they intended and caused some serious damage with spacer lifts installed. I've never heard of it happening, but theoretically even accidentally hitting a bad pothole at speed could cause this problem.

Shock absorbers were never intended to function as bump stops and will fail rather easily when used for that purpose. Just something to consider when you are weighing options...

I'm glad you posted this, as it clarifies a question that I've had about what to do. I was thinking about 5100s and a Daystar 1.5" on the rear, with the front 5100s at 1.75". This was based on previous posts on other threads. Now I'm thinking I'd be better off (budget is big consideration) with just 5100s, front at 1.75" (based on Bob's Trail posts) and no spacer. Comments?
