New Owner - Questions

I'm glad you posted this, as it clarifies a question that I've had about what to do. I was thinking about 5100s and a Daystar 1.5" on the rear, with the front 5100s at 1.75". This was based on previous posts on other threads. Now I'm thinking I'd be better off (budget is big consideration) with just 5100s, front at 1.75" (based on Bob's Trail posts) and no spacer. Comments?

:yo:

The list of people that have run spacers w/ zero problems FAR outweighs the list that have had an issue. Theoretically it should be possible to bottom out on a rear shock on spacers and damage a shock, but I've never seen it - the cases I've seen have always been to the front.

The odds are in your favor of having no problems for a long time w/ a typical spacer lift. In the face of all the people that have run spacer lifts w/o a problem it is a little ridiculous for me to insist that they are a disaster waiting to happen. My point of view is that I can't get comfortable with the idea of the potential for damage/failure far from help. That's the reason I got rid of my spacer lift a long time ago.

Appreciate your well thought out answer. Now I'm tending toward the DS 1.5" rear to give a little unobtrusive lift.

Thanks!

A little insight to what I did. Money was a big factor in my decision. I am a huge cheap skate and hate spending large amount of money at any given point in time. I bought the toytec front spacers and rear coils for 3" up front and 2" in the rear. It was around $320. What it allowed me to do was purchase larger wheels and tires and lift my vehicle 3 inches. When I am ready I can upgrade the front with adjustable coilovers and spend what I see fit when I make that choice. In the long run I will have spent about $100 extra for the spacers which I should be able to sell for a few bucks when I am done with 'em. Then when I am ready I can buy new shocks for the rear as well. One piece at a time without breaking the bank so to speak. On my 2001 4runner and 2005 Tacoma I didn't change the upper control arms after spacer lifts but I felt great pressure from this forum to do so on my 2013 4Runner. Another cost to factor in making your decision.

Is it wrong to quote your own post? Lol. Just to note with the UCA, on my previous Yotas I only ran 275's as opposed to the 285's I'm currently running.
