I filled up right before so I should have a good idea of mpg change in the next couple of weeks or so.
I got P cuz of gas and I don't do any crazy off roading. I believe 275 only come in LT.
I switched to these tires too. I have about 5k on them and must say a great tire . This past winter they worked great , off road too , excellent in rain and during heavy rains I noticed no hydro at all even at high speeds.
I also have P rated and have off roaded on intermediate trails , farmland and forest roads , ruts and mud without issue . Im very happy with them.

Update:
stock tires I was getting about 19 mpg, with these I'm getting about 18.5 mpg. My driving is roughly 50/50 city and highway. But I live in LA County so even with highway we have a good amount traffic all the time. Pumped to 36-37 psi. Not sure what I had on stock, forgot to check. There is a noticeable change in ride comfort. Still feels good but you feel a lot more bumps in the road. Not a big deal.
I like turning hard and these tires make a significant difference on handling.
So far, as others have mentioned, they are great tires and not a huge gas dmg. Tirerack has them ranked pretty high on the list. Haven't had much rain but they are suppose to work great in rain and decent in snow. I would recommend them and will highly consider another set in the future but they should last me a long time

I remember reading other posts that say these tires improve the ride quality, do you notice that as well, ie doesn't bounce around as much as on the stock tires?

I think that depends a lot on your psi. Mine feel more of the road, so the slight bumps or ups and downs of the road you feel it more. Again the psi is fairly high. But handles much better so less sway, if that's what you mean by "bounce around."

I have stock sized tires and lift. I personally think it looks rad. There is a lot of hype about the "need" for 285's. Don't get me wrong, I might upgrade myself for winter but personally I find there to be a lot of hype about lifted runners not looking good with 265's - I think they look awesome. One aspect of the aetsthetics of 265s I really like, is seeing coilover and rear shock so easily - it just looks cool to me. With my RADFLO you can actually see "radflo" on the rear shock.
Its funny how on these forms people seem to want to conform to some sort of standard...I think its important you do what you think looks rad. For example I think the ARB bumper looks sweet regardless of whatever the consesus is online.
People need to always bear in mind any change in tire entails compromise. Sure 285's will run smoother on big terrain, but they'll also net a loss in MPG, a loss in power (whether its percieved or not) and it will also increase wear on tear on almost everything. Its almost like a drug pusher who is on 285s and wants you to be on the same too...hahaha.
