new shoes for the runner....

Well.... I ended up putting new shoes on my 95 3.0 today..... from a thousand miles away. The set that the truck cam with were old and tired out no doubt. We also knew that one of the tires had a plug in it. as soon as i left town for work the lady calls me and says her truck the runner has a flat.


greaaaaat I had her take it to the local les schawb and see what they could hook up with. I know that a paied more then what I wanted to. but when I factored in shipping and the time to ship tires from else where.... well time is money and she needed thtruck back the next day since I am out of town



Anyways, when I bought the truck some one had cramed a set of 265/75/r16s in there, I got the stock set of rims with the truck and ended up putting tires on it in that size since it was about a hundred bucks cheaper

when with the wild country XTX sport.... its one of the few AT's that had gotten the winter snow flake and is rated as a snow tire.... important in this part o the world

any one else running these tires?

Been awhile since I've shopped at a Les Schwab. That's the only place I ever went for tires back in the day, you'd roll into the parking and there'd be a guy come running before you could get out of your car, and then you'd go inside and watch those guys flat booking around the garage like their shoes were on fire. Never ever saw a fat kid working at a Les Schwab, and you never had to worry about crap work or being overcharged.

Those places aren't the same since Les died. I mostly go to Discount now.

Found a review of your tires - sounds like they put on a winner for all season use up there.

Looks to me like they would do very well in snow/icy conditions - lots of siping in the lugs = great traction in the winter. Very similar to the BFG A/Ts

This winter would be the time for a follow up report on how The XTX's perform.

Keep your eyes open for a follow up report for sure.... I like the BFG but to be honnest it is 20 year old tech that gets backed up with snow too easily.... I was never impresssed in the snow at least.... Since this is one of the few AT's rated as a winter tire I thought I would give it a shot.... I had to buy them from a distance and that killed me.... so they are on the runn and thats in idaho but I am in california for work.... more when I get home and put them through their paces...

I ran a set of the XTX's on my 4th Gen and while they weren't initially a bad tire, they didn't last long and quickly began to wear unevenly. Towards the end they began humming a lot at around 45mph. I had them for just over two years and, if I remember correctly, about 30k miles. Got tired of them and went with the Toyo A/T II LT. Much better. While I do get a little bit of whine from these on the freeway (70mph +), I think these are much better quality.

This tire... is only rated for 40 k miles....at least that is my impression... I do not expect to get the same life out of them as my 10 ply hankooks... but that is what you get when you go with a tire that has a softer rubber compound and thus is snow rated....

we shall see, I know some who love them, I know some who have the same stories as you. Either way when you live in in a part of the world that gets about 400 inches of snow a winter... you need something that will work... depending on how good they are, I may not put my studded cooper snow tires on this year... its a bit of wait and see.... I had to admit I was not impressed with the price point and the lesson, or take away point of this is buy titres before you need them. if you get stuck and you need them that day you are never going to save any money. I could have saved at least 200 bucks by going with another tire if I got it online.... this is the THIRD time in ayear I have had to buy a set of all four tires for my rigs.... needless to say I am so over tires, tire research tire reviews etc...
