Hello T4R people! I just got a 97 SR5 and I can honestly say it is the best vehicle I have ever owned. Great for dogs, work, easy to park, not too big and obnoxious, pretty comfortable, can sleep in it, the rear window rolls down like the station wagon of my childhood! Sure, it would be nice if it got better MPG but it is not too bad. One question I have is, is that small thud when I take my foot off the brake after stopping normal? Thanks!

Hey and a welcome to you and me. This is my first post on this forum but I've been on the Yotatech forum for a short while.
I also recently purchased a 97 SR5 4WD and I have the same noise. I read on the other forums that you should try lubing your driveshafts and checking your rear brakes to make sure your diff. seals aren't leaking into the drums. I checked all my brakes and lubed all the points on my driveshafts and I still have the noise.

Is it 4WD? If so, your "thud" is almost certainly caused by binding slip yokes in the drive lines. My '98 did this. It's easily fixed by doing a lube job on the driveshafts. If memory serves, there are six zerk fittings, two for slip yokes and four for u-joints. These need to be lubed at each oil change. The slip yokes take lots of grease, like 6-7 pumps from a full-sized grease gun.
Use NGLI-2 grease that contains molybdenum disulfide. Valvoline makes an excellent NGLI-2 synthetic grease with moly disulfide. I've used it for several years and never hear the "thud" in our current 'Runner.
If greasing the drive shafts doesn't fix the problem immediately, it may be because it can take a while for the grease to work itself into the full length of the slip yokes. Drive the vehicle for a few days, then re-lube the slip yoke zerks.
