New thermostat jiggle at 12 o'clock, is unit 2 piece or 1

I have purchased a new thermostat and housing, as the thermostat and housing together was considered the only correct oem part for my 04 1gr-fe. I ordered the thermostat only (correct by the parts house software) but it was red flagged and emailed correct piece was thermostat and housing.

The jiggle valve is in the 12 o'clock position. When I remove it I want to place it in the same position as my old as the old one runs perfect.

Question is, Is the thermostat and housing separate? I pulled on it a little and it didn't budge, I chickened out pulling any harder, my guess is it has to be 2 piece, if not the question is worthless, right ???

I think it's just one piece. I don't remember having to separate it when I took it off.

its 1 piece, the thermostat is built into the housing. i wondered about this when i replaced mine on the t4r since my 03 tacoma thermostat can be set wherever and works best at a certain point.

The "jiggle" valve is there to provide an escape path for air bubbles, so they don't interfere with coolant contact against the thermostat wax motor. They should be located at the highest point of the coolant flow path...usually 12 o'clock as you stated.

Thanks for the reasponses, Glad I didn't yank it. The reason I have asked , as I was planning, I tried to find the correct position for a 4runner, everywhere I read it seemed to suggest the 6'oclock position runs 10 degrees cooler, even though the FSM says 12. I know, it's the internet, but it is a constant opinion.

There are also posts claiming their ECM-managed engine idles at lower RPMs with certain oils or additives. Knowledge is a shield from such nonsense.
