New Tires! mud grapplers vs km2?....mtz vs mt/r?

ok there is a lot of mixed reviews out there on both tires but i wanna know from the guys with my truck, so i can get a review closest to mine as possible ! Im not worried about the price,ether way it is gonna be expensive, but i want to get the best all around in off road performance and on road (highway). I know all about the noise of the mud grapplers, and i have had the km2 on a previous jeep and loved them but i would like a more aggressive tire. so what is every one's thoughts on this?:juggle:

I dont have anything on the Mud Grapplers other than I think they look pretty ugly and I would never run them because of that. But I've ran KM2s before and I liked them. Really good aired down on the rocks and snow, and of course they run through mud very well. I only had them for a short time so hopefully somebody else will chime in.

Then again I wont run either of those because I tried Baja MTZs and I'm sold on them! Hopefully that didnt make your decision any harder
 
KM2s are awesome. The Mud Grapplers are supposed to be great offroad too, but they're LOUD. I followed my buddy on the freeway the other day and heard his tires - when a guy in a first gen can hear the other guys tires, you know that's bad. I haven't ridden in his truck, but I don't know how he can think in there.
 
Yeah. Mud Grapplers are loud as hell on slow manuevers and on the interstate. You can hear all the lugs on the tires touching ground. I love the look and they have an enormous amount of tread left. Humming is somewhat loud but it being a DD, I don't even hear them anymore.

My next pair, the 35's, will be Toyo Open Countries. I enjoy these tires and, 5RUNNERZ, we already talked on it, but I guess I'll publicly post my thoughts on them.

I like playing in the mud with mine but hell do they cake up. Driving down the road throwing mudpies all over cars :D

I liked my KM2 All-Terrains as well though, my T100 has the KM2 Muds. They were okay in everything but not great in anything. (All-Terrains. The Muds are pretty sick.)

my only experience is w the km2's. From what I have experienced, they are awesome for rocks when aired down, more like amazing . . . and mild mud as long as its not that sticky clay. they didnt seem to clear quite as well as i expected on those rainy days at uwharrie and gulches where the mud tends to be sticky clay. other than that, they ride awesome on the road and are pretty dang quite on road too...(prob one of the best mud terrains ive experienced w on road driving). and they also wear well as long as you dont drive like Dale Earnhardt.

I agree with the quietness. The T100 with the KM2 Muds are nowhere near as loud as the Grapplers.

some of us have the plague of wanting to drive hard. maybe i need a bmw instead of a 4runner. SIKEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
 
What got you to the decision between those 2 tires? The km2's are great but there are a lot of other better tires out there to compare them to. Mud grapplers are a bro guy tire in my opinion. 75% of their customers who buy them stick 20's or bigger on them. Hell, I don't know why they even make them in a 17" and lower rim size. Any standard mud tire with larger side lugs WILL hum. That's not the case for mud grapplers though. They WHINE, VERY LOUDLY.. even when brand new. I rather listen to my gf whine all day than be stuck in a truck listening to those tires (again). If you want a Nitto tire, get the trail grapplers. They're heavy though, which is why I decided to take them out of my top 3 list when buying new tires. BTW, I love my MTZ's. Great actual size specs for our rigs, one of the lightest tires out of the bunch, great rep., and good price. For me, it was between MTZ's, KM2's, or MT/R's. Got to remember though, I was looking for 35's.

I know this is a Mud Grap vs KM2 thread so I don't want to steer too far off from the topic. Between those tires, KM2 wins my vote.

I did notice that on all the others that i read up on there was some one on each one that chimed in with almost what you said,mines the gf wine! I dont know any one with the mtz but i did have the baja claws on my 94 4runner and they were awesome but very loud too! well now i am gonna have to ask every one to chime in on the mtz!

now that you mention it every one that i know that has the mud grapplers are on 20" under f250!
 
I have the MTZ's. They are an awesome tire. They do very in all conditions. They grip very well in the rocks and don't chunk that easily, self clean pretty well, don't slip easily in the rain, and they are badass in the snow. They aren't that loud compared to a lot of other mud tires I've heard. I can run them doing 70 on the interstate and hold a conversation inside the vehicle easily not having to talk over them.

Are you sure, the Trail Grapp's are a quite aggressive "mud" tire and are a KM2 competitor? Maybe you're thinking Terra Grappler's? Anyway check out the Toyo MT's as well, I've never heard anything bad about them.

x2 on all this. Sometimes I forget I'm running a mud tire. They have the best road manners of any meaty tire I've ran before them. Rock and dirt are no match for these even when I don't air them down. And when you do air them down the grip is pretty impressive compared to my buddys KM2s. I've taken them through some of Oklahomas best mud holes and never even thought about getting stuck.

Up here in CO I've ran them through snow a lot and even without airing them down I've been able to pull through just about everything (expect when I buried myself up to the bumpers but oh well :biggrin2:).
