New Tires! mud grapplers vs km2?

I can't get passed the number of full size, small 8==D, bling rockstar rim, bracket lift trucks with the mud grapplers... If you have a mud truck, sure, consider them, but I would think that the KM2 is the more 'well rounded' tire. I myself wanted the MTZ's, but I found a deal on the KM2's I couldn't pass up. The KM2's are very similar to the MTZ's, but the MTZ's win in my book with a few more grooves that would help in snow, etc.

i want to get the best all around in off road performance and on road (highway). I know all about the noise of the mud grapplers, and i have had the km2 on a previous jeep and loved them but i would like a more aggressive tire.

I think this kills the mud grappler. ^ These are conflicting statements... highway and aggressive tire don't really go well together. With that combo, though I've yet to try them myself, I would want to try (as mentioned) the TRAIL grapplers instead.

Thanks for the mentions guys. I have had my MTZ's for 2 years now, and have had zero complaints. Ditto everything ARKRWLR and TCMach said about the MTZ's. I also think they are the best looking tire out there.

In addition, they have great street manners, balanced easily, and are wearing very well.

The KM2 doesn't have enough siping in my opinion. And I just don't like the styling of the Mud Grapplers (plus I couldn't live with the loudness.)

I'm replacing my MTZ's with another set of MTZ's lol thats how good they are.

I was looking for a more aggressive tire myself during purchasing. The only tire I found that was more aggressive (in my book) than most of the tires you see such as mud graps, km2s, mt/rs, treppadors, baja claws, baja mtzs, etc.. The only tire that wasnt a full on super swamper like the IROK or pro comp tires was a pitbull Rocker. I would love to run the pitbull rockers but the smallest size they have for a 16inch rim is a 315/75/R16 which is just a little to big for my setup right now.

when I make the move to 35's you'll see me rolling on pitbull rockers lol until then the MTZ's will take me where I need to go. Plus I quoted the pitbulls shipped and installed at discout tire they quoted me just over 2k for the 315/75/16's a little to much cheese for my wallet.

Are you sure, the Trail Grapp's are a quite aggressive "mud" tire and are a KM2 competitor? Maybe you're thinking Terra Grappler's? Anyway check out the Toyo MT's as well, I've never heard anything bad about them.

I know I am not gonna get a tire that rides like a street tire, but the better one out of the group is what i was going for there, considering this TERRA GRAPPLERS are the first tire i have owned that is NOT a mud tire! that being because i bought the truck with them on it!

You guys are all missing the most important thing. MTZs are not as good because they don't have a 255/85r16, and you can't be expo unless you're rocking the tall skinnies.

Another plus for the MTZ's. One of the best "all-around" mud tires out there IMO. They destroy most mud tires in snow/ice because they have pretty decent siping. I love watching them crawl out of stuff in the snow when you are fully aired down. Road noise is OK for a M/T. THey wear quite well and are reasonably priced. My only complaint is that I have a pretty bad flat spot developing in one of my tires. They still have balanced ok with some more weight on the wheels but my KM2's before these never had that issue. Actually my previous 35" MTZ's didnt have this issue either so maybe I just got un-lucky.

The KM2's were wicked tires too EXCEPT in snow/ice. They were quieter on the highway compared to the MTZ's and I think pretty comparable to the MTZ in mud/rock. But they absolutely SUCK in snow/ice. Down right scary IMO and left me in more than one butt-puckering off camber snow situation. The MTZ's are a better tire.

The only other tire I would consider are the MT/R Kevlars. I've went head to head with them on a 3rd gen 4Runner, in the same size, on a similarly equipped vehicle, and they have beat out the MTZ's on a couple of occasions.

I said the MT/R Kevlars beat out my MTZ's on a couple of instances, but my MTZ's have also beat the Kevlars out on a couple obstacles. It's pretty fun to be able to compare this stuff side-by-side. We even would take the exact same line over obstacles on purpose just to try and narrow it down to the tire being the difference and trying to eliminate other variables.

I know [MENTION=67615]Dirtco[/MENTION] ran the Kevlars before his KM2's and I recall him recently saying he likes the KM2's better in packed snow..... If that's the case, my opinion and experience leads me to think the Kevlars are terrible in snow. Although he does have beadlocks and can run 3-5psi so that makes a huge difference in the traction that the tire will have. I'll let him chime in.

A plus for the Kevlars is that they run "true" to size. A 285 Kevlar will be 33" mounted. My MTZ's are slightly shorter (32.7" I recall.)

i had a buddy who ran the km2s and they were pretty great then i got my toyo mt's and swear by them they grab everything i probably wont run anything else, theres a guy around here that runs the nitto 35'' on his runner but i havent asked him how they ride

Holy shit, I didn't notice my tires reflected my penis size. Damnit. I knew it shrunk after that purchase. Oh, no... wait, that was because of their cost.

I was sold my Nitto Mud Grapplers from a friend who was working at the shop I went to for offroad parts. I went to him and asked for an aggressive tire. He pointed me in that direction and I went with it.

I now have had my Nitto Mud Grapplers on for roughly 9 months and the tread isn't whats wearing, its my brain, from all of the vibrations. I do love them. they look aggressive and all, but damn are they loud. They pre-maturely wear out shocks and vibrate panels and components loose. I do love my tires, don't get me wrong, but I would enjoy a decent burn-out, run to treadquarters, and purchase some damn 35" Toyo Open Countries or Mickey Thompson MTZs.

I think my young fad with aggressive tires is done. My Mud Grapplers also slow me down significantly on the interstate. The huge lugs on the tires act as speed bumps when your moving at 70 MPH and when you let off the gas, you immediately feel that deceleration. Now, this might only be me, but the super aggressive mud tires kill my MPGs, and the Heavy-ass, chunky Nittos are on the top of the culprit list.

That is my honest opinion of my 33" Nitto Mud Grapplers.
I must also mention that 9/10 when I look over at someone looking at my truck, their staring at my tires. I sometimes get compliments on just my tires as well. I'm like, you ****ér, I did a lot of work on my truck and you compliment Nitto on their tread design.

I only have KM2 experience. I really like them. The only terrain I have not liked them on is snow. But I live in AZ so snow is a scary thing to see in the first place.

OK one more question what kinda milage is every one getting out of your mtz, i have first hand experience with km2 s getting 40,000 out of a set of a hard life!
