Newbie 99' LTD DIFF LOCK 77k Orig Miles, Intro

Hey there! I'm new to the forum as with my latest purchase - a White 1999 Limited w/ Diff Lock. California 4runner w/ 77k original miles. I purchased it from the original owner. Timing belt and H20 Pump already replaced.

Pretty excited with the purchase but have a feeling I'll be needing to ask some questions and the advice of members.

First item that need tackling: Digital A/C unit is fried. Already have done some research and this seems to be pretty common with the 99's. So thinking I'm going to send it in for the repair.

Secondly, out of curiosity, do these run lower idle when warm? After I drove it home yesterday (about 45 min drive, 95 degrees outside temp) I parked it for about 20 minutes, then restarted it. It started fine but was idling around 500 rpm. I gave it a little gas and it then when back to idle around 1000 rpm. Is this normal behavior?

I think my '99 idles around 750 or so when warm. It does idle substantially higher when the engine is cold, but will go down after it warms up.

Welcome, but since most of us are visually loving folks, it goes without saying:

Concerning the idle you may want to clean the throttle body (easy) and the Idle Air Controller( little more effort for this) and the MAF (use dedicated CNC MAF cleaner for this) as well.

Try a local junkyard first for the AC controller first. You may get lucky:

If it's idling low after running and a restart, it could be the IAC. Commonly happens and usually just needs cleaned.

Thanks for the heads up on throttle body and IAC. I will check them out. In regards to A/C controller - there are a few on Ebay, but I'm wondering if I'll just have the same problem 2-3 months down the road if, it too, is an original digital A/C controller....thoughts?

Give me until tonight to wash it up and get some pictures.
