Newbie Tire Advice

[Snow Slammer]

I have a 2010 SR5 and my factory Duelers have made it 60k miles but it is time to replace. I drive primarily on the interstate (100 mile roundtrip commute to work) but do some light off road in connection with hunting trips. I live in southern Wisconsin so have some snow to contend with. I want a quality quiet ride and will sacrifice some off road abilities to get that. Advice appreciated.

I have no need or desire for any level of AT-class tire, so I have Continental CrossContact LX20 for 9-10 months of the year, and Blizzaks for winter months. (I didn't even put them on this year).

The Contis were highly rated at CR. Nice quiet highway tire, excellent rain traction, ok in snow too, such as it is this year.

The best 90% on road, 10% off road tire I have used is the Michelin LTX MS2. Excellent wear, quiet, smooth, really good in wet weather and still get you thru the mud and snow. The downside is they are pricey, somewhere around $230-$240 per tire for stock 265/70/17 but it is the classic cliche, you get what you pay for. I tried a cheaper route this time and bought BFG Rugged Terrians and am disappointed in the noise, really soft sidewalls and seems to hydroplane way too easy. I'll be going back to the Michelins soon. Just do a little research on Tire Rack and read reviews on other tire sites. Cheaper isn't better and I am mad at myself because I know better.

Look at the kumho kl61, I'm glad I did. I like you am on road most of the time. The kl61 have a60k tread wear warranty. They are silent on road. aggressive look and handle everything I've thrown at them so far. The bonus is they are severe snow rated (mountain/snowflake symbol)AND my 285/75/16 D rated cost my 850 mounted and balanced. Just my .02

I've heard that Firestone Destination is quiet tire adequate for snow, light offroad and highway driving. Almost bought it, but decided that I needed more aggressive tires at the end.

This post is spot on. I have the Michelin LTX MS2 on my 3rd gen and for your intended use this tire will not let you down. Yes, they are pricey, but well worth it.
