Nitrogen tires

What's the reasoning there? Pressurized O2 in the plane during flight? Landing hazard? Been linked to an accident/accident exacerbation in the past?

I don't doubt that's the reason, just curious.
There are some other reasons for nitrogen - its dry mainly, but when you have 200+ PSI of compressed gas in a tire that is supporting the weight of an aircraft as it is landing (bouncing) and at the same time accelerating from 0 to 150+ mph, then going full brakes to slow the aircraft, generates some serious temperatures. It is best to keep all elements of combustion as far away from each other as possible in these types of circumstances.
