Nitto Ridge Grappler?

DO NOT buy the cheap junk uniball control arms from Amazon or Ebay. Search around for the failure rate on them and what happens when they fail and they will. Replacement arms are not just for guys that wheel, they make a huge difference on road also. An incorrect alignment is no fun on the road, trust me, I know. at 3" and 1* of caster, it sucks, Going back to 4* makes a huge difference in ride quality and handling.

yes it's a pretty critical part... I love my Total Chaos UCA's!

Got it. Once again - great advice and thanks!

Total Chaos source?

Thanks! Sounds like Total Chaos is the preferred brand here. Do you mind sharing where the best place to get the Total Chaos UCAs is? I wonder if I can get them to Texas soon since the truck is currently in the shop. Thanks!

TC makes a great arm however they are uniball not ball joint. Uniball arms are a lot of maintenance and are really made more for guys that wheel hard. IMO, stay away from uniball arms.

Today with RG 285s installed.

Had these on before I got there today...

Feels like about a finger width gap between inner sidewall and UCA.

Not sure if this will be a problem or not yet...

That's pretty close but unlikely it'll cause a problem. Looks good with the factory wheels. Just make sure you get 0 camber, 0 toe, and as close to 4* caster as possible with your alignment.

Thanks. Im starting to suffer from a little case of “ground shrinkage” after looking again at your 295s...:) Can you explain “4*” of caster to a suspension idiot (me)?

Got mine from wheelers off road

I'd rather have something that is strong than something that is prone to lots of wear. I've had my TC's for 20K miles and had no issues with light off roading. Of course all you have to do is keep them clean and they work just fine.

Anyway back on topic!

Each have their pros and cons. Ball joint will last just as long if not longer than a uniball. The constant maintenance of a uniball just isn't worth it to me. I know Dobinson uses OEM Toyota ball joints. JBA uses half ton GM ball joints which should last forever. Everyone other than Dobinson also has a zerk on the ball joint which makes things easy. Different strokes though!

The real problem with the ebay UCA's are the misalignment spacers. Replace those spacers and bolts with a Dirt King setup and they are solid. But you might as well pay more and get the TC UCA's. Ask me how i know (experience, not opinion)

Back on topic with the 295 RGs

Dadgum - more tire envy. I should have gone with the 295s. They are much better looking. I doubt they will fit without making some serious changes...so as I mentioned above, I have 2 sets of the Spidertrax 1.25 billet spacers in the box in my truck. As I said, my installer said “Man Im not a fan of those thangs, they really mess with the geometry/weight distribution on the wheels. Lets see if you even need them first... Now having seen my truck with the Daystar kit and sitting on 285 RGs, what do you guys think the spacers would do for me or perhaps against me? I just think a little wider stance will look better and be more stable. Thanks!

just wondering what "constant maintenance" you're talking about? The TC uniballs require no greasing... just wipe them clean and they're ready to go...

More pics from today w Daystar kit and 285 RGs.

The 285s are growing on me, but still thinking about the 1.25 spacers to move those tires out a smidge for a better look. My installer said that will def cause rubbing issues in several spots. Perhaps a set of aftermarket wheels with proper offset/bs would get them pushed out an inch or so..? He said no rubbing as of now and alignment ended up with 0 camber, very slight 0.2ish toe in (he recommended) and best caster they could do was about 2.5. Set of Billstein 5100s for rear coming tomorrow and he wants to extend rear brake lines as a cautionary move. Front/rear mudflap removal looks 110% better IMHO. Havent decided on new UCAs yet or not. Any comments or thoughts?
