Nitto Ridge Grappler?

^Preach it!

I know the Falken Wildpeak AT3W has the same sidewall protection in P-Metric as their higher loads. Is this true for the Nitto RGs?

Aired up makes sense on the P-metrics as well.

How are they?

Have pics with your new tires? Did you need to mod the fender or get rid of the mud flaps? Rubbing? Hows the ride? Happy? Whats your rigs ride height?

Thanks everybody else for their total ride height measurements.

I ordered a set of 255/80-17's,, they are sitting at a Firestone waiting for me to show up for install. Having them done in Hillsborough OR when I go visit family for Christmas. With the 10% and no tax they were 858$ out the door.:becky:

How do you still have your mudflaps?

As I go through the thread and see pics. Of grapplers in either 255 or the 285 tires. I still see some with the mudflaps. According to the chart these sizes require fender mods, flap removal and ucas. Are you guys running adjustables like spc? I also want to keep my flaps.

How did you do it?

How did you do it?

Front bumper cut at port.
SPC UCA.
2.75 inches front lift
285/70/17 RGs
Pro wheels
Maintained front mud flaps and never had to do fender liner mod.
And yes, I off road with no rubbing.
All rigs are slightly different.

Looks so but I do not know.

I was very interested in them and for a while they were neck and neck with the Wildpeaks as I was waiting for the 4R to come and choosing tires, but 55lb is a lot of weight for a tire with a 2-ply sidewall. If you want 285 70 17 in P-metric and the weight is good, then that's different. But I am 265 70 or 255 75 (maybe one day) so for me the Ridge Grappler does not cut it though I think the tread design is impressive and it should work very well.

I have become interested in Destination MT2 in 275 75 17 as plan B for me or if I decide I want to try an MT as it is only 47lb and LT-C while offering a 3-ply sidewall and being a state of the art MT with best yet road manners for an MT, alongside the KM3. It is not reviewed as the best in deep mud but that's irrelevant to me. Just a thought though.

EDIT: Yes, the 285 70 17 Ridge G is only 49lb which is great. That's just 2.5lb more than my Widlpeaks in 265.

Correct I understand all have slight build differences. Im also considering size in 255 80 17 RGs. After reading the thread and engineer 1 write up. Pizza cutters seem to best fit what ill be doing.

Installed 305/70R17s today!

Can you get a pic of the front. I would like to see the stance.

What made you go with wildpeaks over Grapplers. My 3 options in prder of favorite. Grapplers, Wilpeaks and Duratracs.

I am kind of different from most in that I am out often yet always solo in state and almost always solo out of state with kids and a dog. So what works for me won't necessarily work for someone in a group, especially a group of built Rubicons. I am not slow but we just do things our own way.

So I wanted the most robust P-metric tire or an LT-C plus guaranteed street manners for traveling all over the West. With the Wildpeak I got away from airing down/up which is a big deal for me, paid 80$ less per tire x5=400$ less for the set than the Ridge Grapplers, and also got 10lb less per tire.

And yet, it was a closer decision than it should have been. I really liked the tread of the Ridge Grapplers.

17,000 miles, 72 trails, 80+ runs, 1800 dirt miles later I made the right decision for me. I did burst a sidewall but I was aired down against my own advice and was moving at twice the speed of the Jeeps that passed a bit later while we had a break after replacing the tire.

If I do lose a tire while on proper pressures and speeds for a P-metric, I will move all the way to a 3-ply sidewall tire in 255 75 70 because in that size I can get LT-C with a 3-ply sidewall at decent weight.

I would expect the P 285 70 17 Ridge Grapplers to do equally well for me but I am not interested in that tire size.

If I were interested in 285 70 17, I would be torn to the point of flipping a coin! These two really are the tires that stand out to me.

We use Nitto 420S on our Subaru and those tires have been superb in terms of performance. We will go Nitto 421Q as a replacement for added winter traction and comfort, but the grip of the 420S coupled with AWD in corners is something I will remember for a long time.

Super happy with the 255's. Front fender was clipped as I previously had 285's. Will the 255's I have no rubbing even with the RockBlokz mud flaps. Tire performs well in snow, rain, sand and redrock. No regrets at all. I have 3" lift and 1.25" SpiderTracks. Ground to top of front fender well is 38.75".

Nice set up. Exactly where I plan to be. We have the same model, color and rims. Did your tire shop complain about the width of tire with that rim?
How does your ride feel? Im new to this so Im going into it lightly. I have the Bilstein 6112Heavy, Bils. 5160 with OME 895e. And see how it goes. Need to choose tires. I want the RGs. My gut and a few say go with 255. Many say go,with 285. Were your previous 285 Ridge Grapplers?

I also noticed the 255 come rated E only. I have no plans to tow. Would this wheel be a waste considering?
Which affects gas more 255 or the 285?

Shop (Firestone) only said they will be more responsive that the 285's. I found they did steer "easier" but not twitchy. The rim size on the Trail is 7.5", right in the middle of Nito's recommended sizes. As for ride, they are truck tires, not Cadillac tires, but I like a truck ride. The E rating gives them a firmer feel on cornering being so tall at 80. Even if you don't tow that's a plus. Gas millage, I get 1.5 miles per gallon better with the 255's over the previous 285's. I have experienced zero downside to going with 255, glad I did, it's all I will ride from here on out.
You can also check out my review of them here, Report-out, Nitto Ridge Grappler LT255/80-17

You are proving my assumptions correct. Nice to read. Were your 285s Grapplers? Last but not least. Did you have to body mount chop? Were the Spidertrax spacers a look thing or needed to prevent rubbing and/or help the ride?
Thanks again!

The 285's were Toyo AT2. No BMC. Spacers are for a wider, more stable stance, and they look good.

285/65/18 here. Love this set. Super quiet for mud/snow capable tires. Although heavy AF.

Picked up a '19 TRD OR this past weekend. Had the dealer include a set of TRD Pro black rims.

Is anyone running the RG's (or something similar) in the 255/17 size? After reading through a lot of material, it appears that this combo will fit with little/no rubbing.

Thoughts?

Suggestions?
