I know this sounds dumb, but is there a dim switch for those optitron gauges?

My girlfriend was freaking out one night (thought she messed up my truck), cause she accidently flicked the knob on the dim switch and it was just black lol.

Yes there is a dimmer for optitron. Same spot as the Sr5 and TE switch I believe.
 
Nope. The warning lights are all on. No Tach or Speedo. No Bat or Heat. No MPG guages. When I turned the lights on no green lights. It started fine. I turned it off to see if it would re-boot but no luck.
 
Wiring ground error for the gauges or the CAN bus cable fell out/isn't properly seated. But then the idiot lights would also probably not be working.

Or they just failed, since they're just electronics.
 
The tech is saying that its the Cruise Controll that is after market and is messing up the computer by sending bad signals..

Wha?!?! Cruise is STANDARD from Toyota on ALL 4R's....unless you had something modified with the system. Sure your headlight fluid is not just low?
 
Nope, my tech said that they add them on when they get here off the boat, and that they have had service letters telling them to watch for problems. Check the Light Fluid? Give me a Break!

They install aftermarket Cruise control at port?????.......That's the first I ever heard of that and sounds like BS.

Seriously? I don't doubt YOU OP ... but can anyone confirm that ... sounds kinda odd to me that they'd do that.
 
That sounds fishy to me as well, especially when the CC has indicator lights in the display. An after-market CC wouldn't have built in indicators in the optitron display.

I've never heard this, either. Why would Toyota install something that's standard on every vehicle at port. That just seems fishy to me.

To the OP: I think that tech is blowing smoke up your a$$.

I think the key word here is "aftermarket." Any non-US manufactured vehicles have a variety of options added once they land here and the majority are done at the dock. That said, the parts are sourced by Toyota and the company doing the mods are contracted by Toyota so they should be considered OEM, not aftermarket parts. As far as adding cruise control to every 4runner once it reaches our shores is not far fetched. Remember the majority of our bodystyle is a Prado elsewhere and for Toyota it might be cheaper to install the cruise control here. It's not like it's a complex system with hoses and wires and a new throttle body. It is a simple stalk change with an additional plug.

My 4R came with interior LED lighting from the port (Southeastern Toyota) and I was shocked to see the installation when I removed my center console. Wire taps, crappy crimp connections, and ridiculous wire management.

My wife's Sienna (built in USA) had options installed as well by "Southeastern Toyota" before ariving at the dealership. The fog light option was added at the "port" (domestic vehicle) and it's a pretty crappy install as well. I expect factory style pigtails and see nothing but butt connectors and poor crimps.

I use butt connectors and crimpers a lot - and trust them to hold wires - but this is not what expect on a brand new vehicle.

Needless to say, I have re-done BOTH installations to my liking. :)
