NO MORE PICS in signature!

Hey all,

Due to the recent poll, i have switched OFF pictures in the signature. I am sorry to those who have them. The members of this forum voted and the majority won...but it was a close race nonetheless.

thats lame ... guess its just like everything else in life ... anything fun or creative can't be "legal"

so what about the massive lists of mods, and cars that have nothing to do w/ Toyotas, or 4runners? are we getting rid of those too, or do i still have to scroll past 30 lines to get to the next one line post?

I think there were several factors that eliminated the pics in sigs. 1) hard time distinguishing between pics in the thread and sig pics 2) sig pics making what would normally be a 3 page thread into a 5 page thread 3) you can post a small pic of your ride in your avatar. 4) Overall people here voted against them.

I, personally, was not bothered by it but I can see how it would be frustrating for some people, especially those with slower Internet connections that have to wait for those pics to load. If you read through the poll you can get a better idea of the thoughts behind the elimination of pics in the sigs. Many forums already have the no pic in your sig rule so I don't see this as a huge deal.

I like the list of mods people put in their sigs because it provides a quick point of reference for what they have done so you don't have to PM them every time you have a question about something. I PM'd HB 4x4 with a question a while back and if I would have just looked at his sig, the asnwer was right there with a link to the thread no less. Of course, you always have the option of putting something else in your sig unrelated to 4R's as long as it's not offensive.

I'll shut up now, I'm starting to sound like one of the Mods. :

Honestly, it doesn't matter to me. I do agree that some were over the top large.

I feel bad for sn0wrunner though, as his was very unique and was more "artwork" than just a "picture" probably why it was stolen from someone overseas. Technically...his WAS "text".

However...democracy is democracy, and I respect the mods and admin's for taking that approach. The masses have spoken.

Although where were the electorial votes? Remember a few years ago...popular vote doesn't always win in a democracy!

That is true...snowrunner signature was indeed "text"...just a bit more extravagant than your average text!

Electoral college? That would be me and the mods!

Seems like a smart move.

I tend to agree that those of us with lengthy signatures (brag lists if you will) could do our part to minimize the clutter.

For example- the first time I post to someone's thread I let my signature show my ride.

In additional posts to the same thread-I uncheck the box "show signature" so I am not repeating the same info over and over.


My beef is how I have to use another service to post a simple pic.

It's discouraged many of us older-less computer savvy guys (I am generalizing here sorry) from doing pics.

It would be great if we could truly "Attach file" of the gip or jpg or jpeg variety. If the pic was too large-it would be wonderful if it would just lead you to resize it.

Just my rantings....

There are some forums that use a feature that only lets you have a pic or banner in your sig if its small enough. I was hoping that they would be able to do that here but the software that they have the forum on is too old. I believe they are workin on that too though. I know how you feel I like to have a banner to represent the teams I am on for my Car Audio and I can't so I just list them Its a good change until they can update and figure out another way to do it though

Here's a thought - what if there were an area on the forum where you could make your own thread to brag about your ride. You could list your mods, post pics, add updates, or whataver. Then, simply place a link to your thread in your sig. That would address both the pics and the lengthy mod lists in sigs.

You can already do that. But do you mean along with the "4th Generation 4Runners" "General Discussions" etc, that there should also be a "Member Build Section" ?

I think toto has a great idea. Some sort of section like YT has where no one can post in your thread except you. Just like a "garage" type section. Is this possible Thai?

I actually agree with this. The reason I have to put a new link for each new modification in my signature is because if I posted them all in one thread, it would be buried under everyone's posts, rendering them useless. Therefore, I need a new thread for each one, or they would never be seen again.

I would assume that you guys just post a thread...and then ask no one else to post in it?? I don't know how to JUST ALLOW one person to post while limiting everyone else.
