No parking lights after DRL mod

I recently purchased a 2001 4Runner and read how to disable the DRL. I did this by cutting the black with yellow stripe wire on the drl box under the dash seemed to do the trick however when I turn the stick to turn on the parking lights they do not come on they will come on with the headlights but not by themselves. I have done several searches on this but cannot come up with this exact problem any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
