Mark, I did not have any luck with my truck. I connected a wire from the bracket of the the HU to the ground point at the front console. Then I tapped the brown ground wire located between the camry amp and the HU and connected it to the same ground point in the console. The buzz is still there. I then tried tapping the ground wire located on the camry amp going to the truck, still a buzz. I also just tried connecting a wire from a mounting point on the side of the amp, no luck. The wierd thing about that was that I had the HU powered up once and was holding the camry amp and it seemed to periodically stop the buzz, depending on where I was touching the amp.




My setup is as follows, I have the camry NAV connected to the small camry amp, I also have a rockford fosgate amp that is grounded to the frame of the truck under the drivers seat. The signals to the amp are through rca cables that are connected through typical rca-wire connection that are connected to the truck speaker connection at the small harness to the camry amp. They have built-in noise filters that are grounded at the same center console grounding point (it is very crowded with ground wires there).

I am so frustrated, I thought for sure this would work. What do you think? What am I doing wrong? I checked to make sure there is contact at the wire taps, and good connection at the console ground. Ugh!!!

First of all take the ground OFF of the wire between the camry amp and the HU. That's not the correct wire to ground. You were correct grounding the brown wire between the camry amplifier and the vehicle wiring harness to the same common ground point that you grounded the HU bracket to.

Since this worked for so many of us, I can only assume it has something to do with your other (after-market) amplifier. I suggest you disconnect that completely and see if the buzz stops. Go back to the same configuration we have: Nav HU and camry amplifier. If you have the small amp, it will just fit on the right side of the HU as you're looking at it. Also I assume by tapping into the ground wire (brown) between the wiring harness and amp, that you did not cut the wire. If so, good! I didn't either.

Let me know what happens.

You dont mention where you grouded the amplifiers to. Is it a clean solid ground? Is the power wire run on the same side of the car as the battery? You are using the camry nav correct? How did you choose the rca terminals?

I have the Camry Nav HU (E7003) and one (small) amplifier. I didn't add an aftermarket amplifier to my system and frankly, I don't think I will -- it sounds too good to mess with it. I didn't ground the amplifier chassis at all, only the brown chassis ground wire in the larger of the two connectors that are part of the vehicle wiring harness.

OK I guess i misunderstood your layout. Your Engine noise sounds like an aftermarket amp with bad wiring. The noise you are refering to comes from your little amp only? Or, Is the noise introduced trough all speakers? Is the amp you are using a conventional amp with rca inputs or a radioshack powered speaker.

I'm anxious to see if you come to the same conclusions I do about his noise problem.

still no luck

sorry I took so long to reply, did a road trip this past weekend. Drove up from L.A. to San francisco and then camped two nights south of S.F. and Big Sur. Great Trip, did a little back road driving with some amazing views of the Pacific, I'll post pics later.

Anyway, back to my noise problem. Mark, I took your advise and removed the wire from the ground that connects the HU to the small oem amp, as well as the wire to the amp chassis, so the only new ground connections are from the HU bracket and the brown wire in the amp wire harness - No Luck!! I had some semi-pro help in installing the aftermarket amp. The ground for the amp is located where the drivers seat is bolted to the frame of the truck, I made sure to sand off the paint, so there is a good connection there. The power for the amp runs on the same side the battery is located and comes through the firewall on the drivers side. The rca cables are high quality monster cables. The only reason I added an amp is because the camry amp is engineered to provide more power to the front speakers, because the camry has more speakers in the front vs. the rear. I also upgraded the speakers to Infinity and I read they need more power than other speakers. Everything sounds great at high volume, it is when the sound is turned down that I hear the alternator whine.

So, if it is my after market amp, what are my options?

If you are stiil out there I have a question on this problem that you might be able to help me on. I recently added a Scion HU to my '03 4Runner, a PIE adaptor, Monster RCA "Y" cable to a XM Skifi2 unit. Everything works fine but a have the dreaded alternator buzz that increases as the rpm's do. It is only when I listen to XM sat radio. I tried running a ground from one of the outside shields of the PIE adaptors RCA plugs to a brass cloroed screw behind and below the A/C controls. No luck.

I was thinking of installing a noise suppressor bit where do you find on big enough. And following this thread I am not sure that is the answer.

Do you any thoughts? Sounds like you have had success.
