Noise Troubleshooting - Video of Nice views Included

Alright guys, I've been trying to troubleshoot this one for awhile and can't figure it out.

My latest guess is that the rear springs are not seated correctly.

The noise comes from the REAR only. and it only occurs with Vertical up and down motion, ie) running over a speed bump, or even me jumping up and down on the rear bumper.

Here is an enjoyable video of some of my climb to prewitt ridge- Big Sur,CA, which is wildly interrupted by the damn noise. Any insight would be much appreciated!!!

Don't think those are your springs. One way to find out, Lift your ass end up by the frame to full wheel drop and see if you can move/rotate the coils.

While it's up there, look for bare metal rubs or fresh paint removal.

While it's up there, take a floor jack and jack up one side at a time and see if anything is contacting. After it's up release the jack quickly.


Grab and shake/move anything and everything.

It might even be above items also, but hard to tell since I'm not there with you when it's doing it.

I'm still chasing 1 last clunk noise in the front myself. Irritating!

I can't comment on the noise but how was Prewitt Ridge? I drove up there last August with the intention of remote camping but I immediately retreated due to the massive amounts of bugs (and bees) and 90+ degree heat...

Sorry [MENTION=88231]having fun[/MENTION] but I am almost positive it isn't the coils. Even if they weren't seated correctly you wouldn't be able to move them at full drop as the shocks prevent the axle from going down even further. You only would be able to move them if they were really off seated, which probably isn't the case because it wouldn't have made it far at all with out loud clunks and thuds.

I have nearly the exact same suspension set up and when backing out of the driveway for the first time I heard and felt a loud bang. The right spring was slightly off seated so I removed the shock and reseated it. After that everything was silent.

Your springs wouldn't be moving and clunking that much. It sounds like something light with not much force behind it. IDk if your spare is off but I would check the mount/holder/cable/thing that holds the spare up. Or if you have something in the hitch receiver check that.

Try putting the go pro underneath the rear. I had mine mounted to a hitch which makes noise. Without out the spare this would be a good view to get an idea of whats going on.

I'm aware that the probability of the coils weren't loose in there but to give him piece of mind knowing he needed to start looking else where after checking. This is why I put the other things in there for search references. For got the hitch thing personally, had that one before also. The tire carrier is a definite possibility.

Grab, shake, movement has done wonders for me locating.

Does sound like tire carrier swinging around ...I zip tied mine up problem solved

Also exhaust hanger, possible weld broke allowing the exhaust slap up and down ...had that issue as well bungee cord it up until you get it rewelded problem solved

Also extended sway bar links slapping against your LCA look for paint chips and scratches just below link ... Mine was doing it so bad they bent my LCA's...remove sway bar and links problem solved

Also check for top and bottom missing nuts on your shocks ...possibly backed off
Put some new nuts on problem solved

It was fantastic, but we didnt camp there due to a huge storm front coming in. Also. bugs and bees - thats a no go for me. nothing worse than crap in your food and drinks
