Non-Locking gas cap and fuel filler door

Hi everyone,
I'm "Limited11" and new to this board and brand new to offroading.
I just purchased an 11 4runner and it has neither a locking fuel filler door or a locking gas cap. I've already tried the dealers, auto parts stores, and even Canadian dealers and NONE of them have anything to secure my gas tank. I've also seen a DIY electric door coil modification, the old mail box lock cylinder on the door trick; but I'm saving those kind of options as a last ditch effort since this is a brand new vehicle.
Does anyone have any better ideas?

Did they do away with the filler door lock with the inside release on the 5th gen? As far as I know, all the 4th gens had one. With the pressurized gas tank and the sealing cap, it would be difficult to replace the cap with a locking model and still have it seal properly so as not to throw a CEL code.

Check the 5th gen sub-forum and see if any members got one.

I had to wait until Sept '05 before Stant had one for my Tacoma. Luckily for me, it was only about a month wait, since I got the Taco in August that year.

They ditched the lock on the 5th Gen, relying on the anti-syphon device in the filler tube instead. Most modern vehicles have the same thing - couple of years ago when gas prices were crazy like they are now I remember reports of some lunatics drilling holes in tanks from underneath to take fuel (being high off the ground makes us prime targets for this along with cat theft)- a locking filler cap or fuel door won't save you from that.

Look on the bright side - the 4th Gen fuel door is a bear to get open if you have been hit by freezing rain recently - the manual 5th Gen fuel door should get round that issue.

Ford has the cap less feature now.
