Normal for leather??

Just traded my '07 SR5 for a 2012 SR5 with leather. Love the truck...as much as I loved my last one. Question on leather; in between the drivers seat a center console, there is a flap of carpet hanging down that is sewn into leather. Is this normal? Passenger does not.

^^^that must be what it is for. it works well, too. my dog loves it. her nose is skinny enough that she finds all sorts of goodies down there.
