Like really guys?
I have a 2012 SR5 with no other mods except for NFAB nerf bars

i drive conservatively because i try to get the best mileage possible, and i dont stay on the gas until the next red, i coast and drive non-aggressive. now thats not saying i like to get on it on the freeway but i always allow myself to coast to slow down

the only real time ive noticed any substantial nose dive is when i apparently dont see a stopped car with the emergency flashers and i need to stop, asap.

so what im suggesting is that: nose dive comes from seriously aggressive braking. :shrug:

EDIT: also this is with the stock dunflops (grandtrek at20) at 36-37 psi

no harm received, but i made this thread trying to see if the "nose dive" that some of you guys are experiencing is really because of your driving habits, or because of too squishy stock suspension.

because i havent experienced it much, even going through orange county --> los angeles traffic, or hollywood etc etc.
 
How about this: a person's perception of nose dive is subjective. It all depends on his driving history and to what level of nose dive he's accustomed.
If I had previously been driving a subaru wrx sti, or a mazdaspeed 3, the 4runner would seem to have considerable nose dive. However, I previously drove a ml320. The nose dive, as the previous poster metioned, is only noticeable under hard braking, to me at least. Compared to my buddy's f-150, it has zero nose dive under all circumstances.

I'd say it's a little bit of both, but would lean more towards the kind of squishy conclusion. I've gotten pretty much used to it. I still have and drive a ML320 and it has very little nose dive compared to 4runner. And then my Porsche 993 with a suspension tuned more for the track has virtually no nosedive no matter how hard you push on the brake pedal. As was previously stated it subjective to a certain degree.

thats what im thinking as well. but is it even a smidgen fair to compare the 4runner to a track car?

its a bit like saying "how come i cant knee down in a harley!!" :roadkill:
 
As a new T4R owner/driver I have noticed the nose dive too, and I do not drive aggressive or apply brakes hard. (except in a panic) But I just assumed it is due to the IFS and soft factory issued front shocks.

I have been driving Grand Cherokees with solid front axles for the last ten years. Even they had some nose dive with the factory shocks, but as soon as I replaced the shocks with good aftermarket ones nose dive was no longer an issue.

I am hoping this will be the same with the Toyota. When the time comes, I will look for some good replacement shocks like Bilstein or something and hope it helps.

the nose dive of the T4R's are well documented and everyone of them does it. The SR5 models do it more than the Trail Edition onces because of the soft suspension that they are equipped with. If it bothers you that much, a set of stiffer shocks or stiffer springs should do the trick and help with the nose diving. Good luck with it.

it doesnt bother me at all, i can barely tell its there and when i do, i am completely aware its because of the squishy stock suspension

its just that i feel when people complain about nose dive they are as capable as this person...

Amen...at the risk of sounding like a drama queen: I'm actually speechless after watching that...wow...I guess those of us who desire a truck based suv are in the minority?

amen to that amen sir....that is the precise reason i bought one. screw those crossover puss wagons. i'm sick of all these freaking people whinig and bi#$%ing about how there SUV's ride ruff and don't have enough lux's. grow some balls people. the local radio station always talks about "the pussification of america is rampant" and here is one example. she whines about how the part time 4 Wheel drive system is annoying. its called a TRUCK. it allows the smart user to activate it when needed not when the vehicle thinks you need it. vehicles are smarter than people these days. holy crap. sorry for the rant but really? if i wanted a car i would have bought a civic

Do you really think that those that desire a truck based SUV are in the majority?

99% want to be in a higher AWD capable vehicle for utility and the perception of safety but they want creature comforts for daily family activity as well. The 4runner is far more hardcore and has a tiny market overall.

No consumer advise organization will recommend it.

Johnny: Point taken. I was actually being quite literal when I said that I was speechless...I agree with you 100% on the desires of the average consumer...I'm just surprised really (although maybe I'm just being naive) that all of what sets this thing apart from every other SUV/Crossover is being portrayed in such a negative light. This is by FAR the most expensive vehicle I've ever purchased and all of the research I did mostly had a similar tone: This version of the 4Runner was supposed to be the return to the truck like roots that it originally came from.

I guess it's all relative...CR issues its reviews based on the average consumer's wants/needs and we all purchased our vehicles due to the fact that we WANTED trucklike SUVs...to each his/her own for sure. I just hate thinking that people out there watch stuff like this and take it as gospel without forming an opinion of their own
 
When I had my stock suspension, I too noticed excessive nose dive upon any type of breaking even under conservative driving. That was one of the main reasons I went with an aftermarket suspension set up.
