Wow, i did not know that the criteria is so different from state to state. In Texas, we have to be in class for AT LEAST 10 hours...usually, this ends up being at least 12 hours, with a lecture and shooting part. This is all in one day. You have to pass the written and shooting part to get the CHL. My application took 4 months to get...nowadays, it takes up to 6 months! Since they asked me for various stuff (due to me being an immigrant), i know that my application went through Austin office (state) and then to the federal branch (FBI?). From the top of my head, i know that my Texas license is legit in Florida and some other states.

Here in TEXAS, some law enforcement agencies prefer that you show your CHL when you are stopped by an officer.

Allows open or concealed carry.

I never really understood "open" carry. Open carry is fine...good for showing off, but it severely undermines your most powerful weapon...SURPRISE! With open carry, your attacker KNOWS that you have a weapon and will likely be prepared for it...you're left with being on equal footing with the attacker, who may be more experienced than you. With conceal carry, you have the element of surprise on your side...the attacker does not that you have a weapon...you may then have an advantage because you have a weapon that he/she is not expecting.

In addition, my brother told me of a true event where a robber was behind a guy (who has open carry weapon) at a gas station. The robber hit the guy on the head and took his weapon...then use it to rob the gas station.

I used to have a TX lic before moving to GA. The law in TX requires you to show it.
At least it is a proper license with a picture and a central registry. The GA license is pretty junky with no picture.

It's nice that TX now honors the GA license since I visit there often. They used to only honor licenses from states that also required some law and shooting training.

Most states honor GA licenses but for those that don't, GA residents get a Utah non-resident license and that gives maximum US coverage.

if you think you would have longer than one or two seconds you could be dead wrong. that one to two is a luxury. most crimes like this are instant and virtually no time is allowed victims esp. if your back is to the door and this maniac comes in blazing.......

I am not sure I get the capital A thing of the other poster.America is spelled with a capital A, just me being A-nal again,heck, I even spelled PEEP with All capitals!

Anyway, sounds like training in how to get comfortable with a handgun is the thing so you react as a trained individual not from the seat of your pants. "dont' want daisies where your cinch belt oughta be."

Don't credit Palin with that one. In fact in the last several months as you might already know Todd's step sister was arrested and charged for burglary, caught in the act by an armed homeowner who stopped the little darling from robbing his home with her baby under her arm. In addition, Levi who was engaged to Palin's daughter well it seems that his mother the little bookworm, well she was arrested and booked for selling oxycontin (on the street). Finally, Ms. Sarah herself was involved in an ethics debacle when she showed up at Todd's Iron Horse competition dressed to the nines in Arctic Cat regalia (yup kids and all) which a governor is not supposed to do. There is more, however in this limited space and the yawn factor I can only contribute so much without falling asleep. The State motto may be carry a weapon free, but the State flower is quickly becoming the Trailer.
