was curious if you have replaced your Axles and boots as compared to the CVJ

I've swapped one of mine in and out ,I actually tore one of my boots this past spring and pulled it out to get it re packed and booted and planned on using the one i pulled as a spare and put a cardon select CV in it's place but i quickly found out that i can't run those aftermarket CV's with the amount of lift that i have because they bind up. At least thats what happened with the cardon select CV's, I'm not sure about other aftermarket CV's? So i just put the stock one back in after it was re packed and booted. From what i am told nothing is really as strong as stock. So i went on Ebay and picked up some Used stock Cv's for about $50 to use as spares. Actually my passenger CV is starting to weep now so i may try to re clamp if not just pull it and have it re packed and booted. Oh also you can but the long travel boots from All Pro Off Road that you can use on stock CV's that will flex a little more and are more durable than the stock boots, but they aren't split boot kits they are full on boots...

Got started on the Bantam trailer overhaul today. I plan on it being winter project so it will be ready to go camping come spring. I picked it up a few months ago and it's pretty much been sitting until I could get a welder to start fabricating things on it. Fast forward to Thanksgiving weekend I went to tractor supply and got a good Black Friday deal plus a little extra for being the last display model. After researching some good entry level mig welders I ended up going with the Hobart handler 140 mig. It's a 120v because I don't have 220 in the garage but for the type of stuff I'm going to be doing I think this will be more than adequate.

So I picked all the welding supplies I needed to get started and a 40cf cylinder and made a day of it. My buddy who welds got a living came over to help me set the welder up and brought some extra scrap for me to practice on before I started on the trailer. Anyways enough of that on to the trailer.

My plans for the trailer build include.

Floor
Extend trailer tongue
Make new M416 style fenders
Make lid with legs and cross bars that will extend up for the RTT.
Recessed hitch for bike carrier
Por-15
Color matched to truck

Ok so we started out with the floor today. Originally I was just going to patch a piece near the rear tailgate but after I started grinding the rest of the floor I realized there's were a lot more holes and places it started to rot thru. To be expected I guess on 65+ year old trailer so we just ended up cutting the old floor out and putting a whole new one in. I wanted to use a 14 gauge sheet but the steel place near me was out of stock so I just ended up doing 16 gauge which is pretty much what the old floor was so I think it will be ok for another 65+ years haha

Ended up running out of wire towards the end so I need to go pick up another spool tomorrow and finish welling the rest it. Then finish grinding the rest of the tub and then Seam seal the all the seams and do a couple coats of por-15. Off to a pretty good start.

Dude, your 4runner is fricking awesome! I especially like how you plastic dip the Runner. I was wondering how its holding up? Any fading and have you done any touch ups since doing that Overland trip?
Also, looking forward to seeing the completed Bantam trailer !

Plasti dip is holding up well,you really can't beat it for the money and the extra added paint protection. (If you like that look that is? )There are a few areas like around the top of the front windshield and other edges that you can see it starting to peel a little bit. But I kind of rushed it when I did it so probably more my fault. I didn't spray it on thick enough on those areas. Other than that it's held up great! I've literally bounced of trees and embankments and its stayed on fine. I plan on peeling it off after this winter and re doing it. I will probably use 5-6 gallons this time vs 4 last time to ensure I get a nice even thick coats.

Thanks, it's another fun project that's quickly evolving that I'm sure is going to going to be way more expensive than I originally anticipated haha just like the 4Runner! But hey as long as long as your having fun and you get to go out and enjoy em!!!

Instead of removing the old plastic dip, you should touch up the bad area's and re-spray the truck with two more gallons. That should give the truck a nice thick coat of plastic dip. Not sure if you seen this video on how to touch up plastic dip. This would save you a lot of time and money.

You should definitely check it out. Fenders are easy, you can hit those with a couple of cans and be good to go. Or just just get the kit and do the whole truck. A little more prep work but once your prepped and set up it'll take you 3-5 hours. Doing the prep/masking and taking it off after actually takes longer than the spraying the dip!

Got some more work done on the trailer this weekend. Painted the inside of the tub and underneath with Por-15. Also started making the fenders and side step/rack.

Also installed my snorkel. Thanks [MENTION=112248]cpark_12[/MENTION] for the reference and selling me on it once I saw his! Very happy with the out come. Fits great and looks super bad ass but most of all its sealed up nice and tight do don't have to worry about those deep water crossings anymore!!

Sweet!!! It looks great! How bad was plumbing it up to the airbox for you with the V6?

Thanks man! It wasn't too bad, I just had to cut the down the tube a little at and angle that goes into the fender because it was a little bit above the actual whole in the engine bay. Then i just siliconed all around the hose and the hole to make sure it was sealed up tight.

I don't sorry, I always forget to do the instal pics and it's usually because i have more than one thing going on at once :juggle: but you have a little room for era once you drill as long as your not to far from the proper placement. Ask me how i know :hiding: I may have had to adjust some of the wholes accordingly to make sure it was lined up properly haha but no biggie. Just make sure you test fit the template on the snorkel first and double check your placements...

You don't have to change anything in the engine bay itself. You just have to make sure the hose coming off the snorkel is routed properly from the snorkel into the whole and make sure everything is sealed up tight!
