Just returned from long road trip to spend Xmas at the coast... Having the A&K player with a good number of my favorite CD's re-ripped to FLAC using the AK Ripper I bought after my Turkey DAY audio revelation meant I enjoyed hours of warm full and amazing sound in the 4runner which took away much of the normal traffic frustration and gave me a chance to really hear all my old albums in a new light. Also I had in the past year or two been buying some of my favorites from the early 90's that are currently being re-released as 25 year anniv remaster and ripped to FLAC for top quality. My wife was even impressed by the difference in quality as I flipped back and forth between the same track on a MP3 USB key source to the A&K player with the FLAC version. That is saying a lot because she can pretty much care less about this kind of stuff. While at the coast, I got extra bonus of drowning out the kids' video games by wearing my nice headphone while listening to the same FLACs through a tube headphone amp. That listening enjoyment along with a microbrew from the local pub and stormy ocean waves out the window made for an excellent recipe to reboot and recharge for 2019.
In the car, OEM Audio+ system really behaves in my opinion like that good set of headphones while still letting you hear the things you need to be safe driving. I can't imagine for the type of person I am having spent a better couple grand on an upgrade for my TRD Pro. Even with the tribulation of getting the install kinks worked out, it paid off in the end. Highly recommend this O+ setup with the dedicated sub amp and in agreement with niadh0 on the FLAC Player through aux port being the best possible way to enjoy HQ tuned in your 4runner.

hi there, sure I can do but I rather you have call Daniel @ OEM+ first. That is because you may have a different model (silver vs black). I think the silver one was called 450(Q) and the black one is called 500Q. The firmware and the tuning file I was sent by Daniel were made for the Black 500Q amp. The advantage of calling OEM+ is that they will send you the right software and files that are needed for your specific amp. Doe this make sense? there is no download portal/website whereby you can simply download the files for a DIY job. Let me know.

same to you. I know exactly what you mean. I have two setups at home by Sony and I absolutely love the hi-res domain. it elevated and re0ignited the love of music in me. so yes i can not agree more as you know.
as fort the mount, I wanted to keep the stereo cable short from the Fiio player to the Aux port. I actually have a 6 inch cable that i want to use but I have not found a good mounting solution yet. so here is what I did.
found a garmin GPS suction cup mount that has about 1.75inch/2inch suction cup on the base and has a small ball-joint on the other end. Mounted it just under the left hand side big knob. Then I took a part of SPIGEN magnetic mounts designed for phones. The back of the magnetic mount installs on a ball-joint of any kind. so I mounted that on the short Garmin base as you can see in the attached pic. then put a metal pate on the back of the hi-res player between the case and the player... and walla.... i have a tiny clutter-free solution that is good for now. then neatly made a wire combo with some electrical tape with two wires... USB-miniUSB and Stereo-AUX-to-Stereo-LineOut. connected both to the player....still working on finding better wires... or at least looking forward to heat-shrinking the wires so it is absolutely a clan setup. no wire comes in the way as there is no extra hang any where.

I contacted Daniel and he sent me an email with detailed instructions on how to get the firmware update downloaded and installed to the amplifier. It requires a Windows PC and I do not have a laptop, only a desktop. So I will be waiting until I have access to a laptop to be able to install.

LoL I faced the same issue as my whole family is a mac family and the only two windows machines in the house were desktops... i moved one in the garage as you can see in the pic

just curious, was the issue resolved? i did have a common issue... which was the low volume. It was however instantly fixed by the firmware upgrade that Daniel sent. that was brilliant of OEM+.
overall, my observation about the source selection and how it plays via OEM+....
...not knowing the design/architecture of the Factory deck or the OEM+, here is my theory. I am assuming that the AUX input is the only input that would not use the internal DAC (Digital to Analog Converter) that is part of the Factory Deck, where as all other sources would use the internal DAC before the amplification by the Factory deck. As the OEM+ feeds off the amplified speaker outputs by the factory deck... I am assuming that the better the base output from the deck is, the better enhanced quality you get out of OEM+ unit. After all OEM+ can only enhance the details if it gets it in the first place from the deck, and it can certainly not manufacture what it does not have.
So in theory if we place a great DAC before the amp and still use the OEM configuration it would be outstanding... which is what I and some other users have experienced by using a Hi-Res player with premium quality on-board DAC and using the line-out from the Hi-Res player and feeding it to the AUX input in the Runner which is further enhanced by the OEM+. Of course any experts with a view under the hood can agree or argue to my theory.
playing 320k Spotify over BlueTooth is still subject to 1) the built-in blutooth transmitter of your phone and the blutooth receiver of factory radio, and 2) the factory deck's DAC -or- your phone's DAC if you use headphone out and feed via AUX. after all its all about the details in your source and DAC before the amplification.
i am sure I haven't said anything new that people did not know already. And this does NOT take away any credit OEM+ has built in my setup.

I had the self powered 8" Kicker narrow sub under the front seat in my Tacoma and it hit hard and clean. I miss that truck but my wife needed a bigger truck for towing her horses ect. So we now have a 2016 Tundra she loves.
I for the meantime drive the old 2016 Corolla since I work further from home. But once its paid off I am trading in the Corolla for my 4Runner Limited
Just debating to go 5th gen or wait and see about the 6th gen.
Either version is getting a full stereo overhall.

Considering the "+ amp option" from their website. Is this the same sub amp mentioned on this thread. Anyone have any new feedback on this option? where is everyone putting their sub knob? Pictures if possible please

Yes it is the same. +Amp is only way to go if you are using their sub. It allows dedicated amp for the sub and more headroom for the other speakers on the DSP amp. Stick the sub control knob in the glove + not really something necessary to keep out anywhere. Really, I just set it where I like it and forget it. Perhaps others mess with it but I really don't see the need personally. Plenty of picks earlier in the thread. Good luck and enjoy... I still enjoy mine every single day... especially with FLAC player through Aux port = best sound possible.

Does the pwr amp in this system work with the alpine halo 9 (259 model, new cheaper 600.00 version?)

I don't see a reason why it would not work. The oem+ amp feeds off the amplified speaker out terminals from your factory deck. The Halo 9 would replace the factory deck and give a similar amplified speaker out, which would go in the OEM+ DSP/Amp. as far as I know the OEM+ unit is tuned to work optimally with the factory deck and there I would give a call to OEM+ and consult. may be they can send you a different tunning/configuration file.
one way to test on your own is to start with a low volume and gradually increase the volume and see at what point you hear bad sound.

Yes, or if you are asking as a pre-purchase question, just contact Daniel from O+ and ask him. They have people who can vet it for you and result will be that you buy something that is warranted to work. Also might save on factory harness connectors you won't need.

Yes, it is designed to allow this per Daniel at O+. That said, if at all you can find a way to afford it from the get go, I would do it as it is sort of a PITA to mount and dismount that amp bracket under the passenger seat and would prefer to do it all at once the first time. Also as someone who owns the solution with both I can guarantee you the second amp is worth it. I had a situation that I detailed earlier in the thread where troubleshooting was required (ended up being a manufacturing problem with the harness) but we had to try and run everything off the single DSP amp as part of it. No comparison to the power and headroom you get with the dedicated sub amp.
