OEM e7008 install Questions

i just got a complete navigation setup, mic, st. wheel controls, heater unit and bezel, etc for my "06 limited. i have got it all installed so far.

my voice does not work. do i have to run the line from the amp to the speaker still or is this prewired?

which wire do i tap into for the VSS behind the heater control?

also i have the whole harness plus about 6" of wire lead just in case. i found that there is about 4 extra plugs that are not on my harness. there is a blue plug, grey plug, long white plug and white plug with about 4 wires in it. i know one is for the camera. what are the others for?

also now the AUX plug in the console does not work with my ipod. does this work differently on the nav radio? can i just get something like this:

or is there another way?

For Voice Nav, yes, you have to route wire from the head unit to the amp (back of the truck). Here is a link that you will find helpful:

I have no idea on the aux, although there are plenty of aftermarket products that are plug and play.

VSS: REd wire with yellow stripe. link: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/engin...-parking-brake-wire-location.html#post1133833 In that link, I tapped it near the driver's kick panel, but there are VSS wires (red/yellow stripe) behind the HVAC, find one and tap it.

AS far as the plug you say it is for the camera, well, here is a pic of the pinouts for a 5th gen NAV (what you have E7008). You will see that the pins responsible for the camera are in a 24 pin plug:

Can you double check your comment on the vss color. I believe it to typically be Violet with Red stripe. Red w/ Yellow stripe is usually the reverse sensor wire.

VSS: Violet with Red stripe
Reverse: Red with Yellow stripe
Parking brake: Parking Brake light green - BECU, middle plug, pin 2, I believe it can found in the left drivers kick panel.

You're correct, I confused the two.

do you have to rewire the speakers or just the amp --> the headunit for the voice nav to work?

No it will not. Look at the plug and then look at the 24 pin plug your E7008 has. It will work if you have an earlier version of the 5thgen NAV though.

No need to rewire anything, read what's in the link (tells you what pin on your HU you need to connect to (wire) the pin on your amp) :

i bought an eclipse bec108 camera and installed that instead. i read some great reviews on it, and couldn't find the oem camera for a decent price. the ironic this is, i just purchased an e7008 and part of the package contained the oem camera...moot point now to uninstall the other just to install the oem one.

question though...just received my right side controls in the mail yesterday and need help installing it. i have some threads bookmarked on how to do this, but the pictures don't show up/removed from host site. i removed the coverings and gained access to the steering column. however, i don't know what screws to remove. i know this is probably simple but as other installers have noted, i don't want airbag in my face, nor do i want to royally screw something up.

do you know what screws or have any photos? maybe cookieroe does!
 
the column does not have to come apart. the airbag has to come out. on the sides of the steering there are two access covers. pull them off and there will be a torx 30 bolt right there. loosen them up and the bag will come out. MAKE SURE THE IGNITION IS OFF!!!!

you will have to add the ribbon cable to the new switch. there will be one phillips screw holding on the blank cover. the ribbon cable only goes on one way and into the buttons one way. its really easy.

i would love to find a BEC106 or 108.

yeah i wasn't clear with my last post...i took off the steering column plastic pieces assuming the t30 bolts were under there. now i can see that i was wrong. will check out the two small access panels soon.

so i see on the right side control/bluetooth part where the ribbon inserts...does the other end go into the left side controls?

got it put in and it looks great!

installed my e7008 nav today and noticed that the nav and bluetooth only come out of the driver's side. is this stock or is there an audio issue?
 
thanks JA....figured it was a stock option.

after playing with the system, i am having some issues:

1) voice recognition does not work. i have the steering wheel controls and overhead console with mic hooked up. i press the button on the steering wheel to activate the voice, the female voice speaks, and after the beep i say a command. after a few seconds it says "system cannot detect the voice..." i tried multiple times with different commands and i keep getting the same thing. diagnostics menu looks good...navigation voice output works fine.

2) black screen when shifting in reverse. i wired up an aftermarket camera, bec108 from eclipse. it says the "check surroundings for safety" bit at the bottom, but the screen is black. checked the wiring for kinks and found nothing. i did some searching here but couldn't find anything conclusive...

I did that this morning before work. There were like 7 green boxes for input volume, and 2 or so red ones. I'm guessing it's in increasing order. Also a stop, rec and play option. I tried recording something and playing it back but did not hear anything.
