OEM intake/inner fender removed question

I saw a thread once discussing this I think and I CAN'T find it. I removed the inner fenders on my rig for tire clearance and the tube going into the airbox is just hanging in there exposed. I haven't had any trouble with it, but have noticed some mud in the bottom of my airbox. What have you guys done to protect this from mud/water? I remember a pic of a pre-filter around the end of it but that doesn't seem like it would help with water. Has anybody rerouted it somewhere else?

yeah just take that 90deg tube out. because its in the fender well pointed back towards your tire, not that you have removed you innner fender its exposed that hole for the intake and slinging mud like you said or what ever else your driving over right towards that thing. i would recommend ether just taking it out so the air is not coming from the fender side, doing the deck plate mod permanently and then closing off the hole on the side of the air box so that way no more dirt is easily accessible to get into the airbox.

you could do that or buy a new inner fender and clip to hold it back up. i know you said u have larger tires so this might not be an option.

think about my first idea. let me know what you think.

Thanks man I'll probably look at the deck plate mod and just get the air from the front rather than in the fender.

Take the opportunity

to do a snorkel? Mine picks up lots of loose, fine dirt and that is because no one rides in front of me! So its my own front right tire kicking all that up into that area. I'd like the deck plate mod but am concerned it will only get the dirt loaded up even faster into that filter....

oh I do like that idea, like a mini snorkel, keep it under the fender, do a turn up with a pre filter or something on the end.
