I have a TE and after coming from a custom audio setup in my last vehicle, the T4R is definitely lacking.

I'd really like to know what/where the speakers are in the TE trim so that I can start planning a small amp and some split coaxials to go in the front at least.

It really sounds that muffled to me.
 
For a stock system I think It is GREAT. I have 2 12" in my Supra and the mids and highs amped, but in comparison to any other stock system its awesome. Blue tooth audio is great. I can listen to a radio station from Boston in hawaii. Got to love IPhones.
 
Meh, I've never had a stock car stereo before. My last system had every speaker replaced and amped. The fronts were component 5 series from Boston Acoustics.

I just really crave clarity in highs and mids and everything seems slightly muffled in stock systems.

I love my audio system in my 4runner..iv had every brand under the sun at some point in my vehicles there is no way i would spend another 2500-3500$ on audio equipment....my 4runner rocks
 
I think you guys have the 15 speaker JBL system.

I'm stuck with the 8 speaker base system... which is pretty middling.
 
I too think the JBL system sounds good. You could go out and spend more money to improve the system, but most people would find it not necessary.

love mine. Sounds good and wit party mode adds some base to it.
 
Once I get up to Wash St, Ill probably replace the sub, it just doesnt give hard rock the crunch it needs. Otherwise I like the mids and 6x9's.
 
Good system. iPod integration leaves something to be desired -- plays the top (first) song/album while paging down. There's no excuse for that.
 
Do you guys notice a difference in "party mode? When I test drove the SR5 I thought I noticed more bass, but in my Limited I can't tell a difference. I tested 2 different Limiteds and had the same outcome. The volume decreases then increases but no difference. The salesman said it works when the liftgate is open, then is turned off automatically when the liftgate is closed.

Party mode is for when the lifegate is open.for things like tailgates and such. Definitely NOT when driving.

Maybe ,the bass was alreasy turned up on the SR5 so you noticed it more. It is adjustable.Salesman doesn't have a clue!It has nothing to do with the liftgate being open or closed.

Who told you that? Not another salesman?ALL the party mode does is switch between the 6 1/2 inch speakers in the 2nd row doors and the 6 1/2" speakers in the rear liftgate and boost the bass to the sub a little. I took them out already and they are identical paper cone co-axial speakers.I can show you pics if you want.The 2nd row door panels are a real pain to get back on.3 screws and a bunch of clips.It's the metal clips near the top that are hard.

They party mode sounds good if you are driving and have your second row seats folded down as that muffles the second row speakers which are down low on the doors.No actual partying while driving of course!
