I am liking many things on the 5th gen, but the fact that you cannot get either multi-mode or fulltime 4WD on the TE absolutly kills the deal. I do believe for the refreshed mid generation update we will see a multi-mode type 6spd V8 offered and if I am in the market to replace the 99 that would be my choice.
The 5th gen looks to be level but they should have made the front fender cutout level with the height of the rear. Also the wheels are 15mm offset (like FJC) rather than 30MM but it still looks like it could benefit from the addition of spacers as they are too far inset.

do you mean mid-year (as in 2010 model) or mid-generation (as in 5th Generation)??
i will try to extend the lease on my current 06 SE V8 again if there's any chance i can get a multi-mode/full-time 4WD on the TE in the next year.... :hungry:

Everyone e-mail that guy at the bottom of the press release and tell him you want a V8, and the center diff on the part time 4WD models.
I like the Limited... Notice in their photos the Limited had the slide out deck, win. I'll get one the minute they toss in a V8.

Hey guys,
Looks like you guys can rest easy somewhat about the torsen center diff as it is included on all models SR5, Trail and Limited according to Edmunds Inside Line. This puts me at ease a little but i'd feel better when i hear it from toyota.

From the looks it the torsen center diff locks and unlocks automatically when needed. Altough I would like having the control myself at least it is there.

Very interesting.
"The transfer cases for both full-time (Limited only) and part-time (both SR5 and Trail Grade 4x4s) models use a Torsen limited-slip center differential that essentially locks up when in 4Hi mode when front and rear driveshafts differences exceed a prescribed limit. With a set of torque-biasing worm gear and clutches, the system is both strong and relatively smooth in its transitions from open to lock."

I am sold on the Trail Edition, however as many have stated if those are the wheel options I am going to have to budget for another set of wheels...those are the ugliest wheels I have seen. Could get a set of road wheels and keep those for the trails. Does anyone know what color options will be available for the TE? Never Mind found the info in another post.

Here's another good site to pick up the new images. These are the same as the ones on the Toyota press site but in nice wallpaper sizes. This site has all manufacturers, quite impressive actually.

They didnt ditch the power rear window, and it has auto up/down capability.
The hatch speakers size depends upon which system you get...
8-speaker system = Full Range, 16 cm (6.3 in), 4 Ω, 20 W
15-speaker system = Full Range + Tweeter (Coaxial), 16 cm (6.3 in), 2 Ω, 10 W
A party-mode equalizer and back door speakers are adopted to provide excellent audio performance outside the vehicle with the back door open when enjoying such outdoor activity as a tailgate party. The party mode switch, installed in the instrument panel, is located at the bottom right section of the driver's seat.

Check out how the T4R in pic #55 is set up. Now that is a TE from the factory I could live with.
I believe he is mistaken. If you look at Toyota's released specifications document, it says only the Limited gets a Torsen center diff:

then again, the official Toyota document doesn't seem to even mention the TE's rear locker either...
If you go to Toyota's press site, you'll find this picture of the Limited center console:
You can see clearly that the limited has a locking center diff with low range. The SR5 and Trail Edition don't have that knob.
I'd be very happy to be proved wrong, but everything I've seen says that the SR5 and Trail Edition don't have a center diff.
