Really liking those Wrangler m/tr tires. May I ask how much they were. And I have stock wheels that came with my '97 base 2.7 liter 4wd 4runner. They are 265/70 R16. How am I able to tell whether or not I can run with larger tires? I think I might need spacers to fir anything bigger than what I have now. I see yours are 315/75 R16. Do you have spacers too?

I think they have discontinued those MT/R's. But, I could be wrong. I'm sure someone still has some stock of them...

Yeah I really liked them, I am surprised the phased them out...

Spacers? You mean lift spacers or wheel spacers? I had wheel adapters which are bolt on spacers. I believe they were 1". I did this to clear the upper a-arms.

And yes, I had a lot of lift to clear the 35's without rubbing.

Yes, I meant wheel spacers, not body spacers. However, How high are your body spacers anyway?

Should I get self-etching primer too before I cover my stock wheels with the color I want?

You don't have to take the tires off....just use a deck of cards to keep from overspraying on your tire

Self-etching

Can I buy a can or three of self-etching primer from an autoparts store? I did find some self-etching primer at Autozone today 20110803....august 3rd 2011.

How would I un-paint and re-paint my rims? I used some of that duplicolor graphite, and would rather have a OE looking silver finish. I would like to remove the graphite and get a different dupli-color rattle can.

sand? what grit, etc could take off the rattle can but not damage my rim? I did a pretty good job the first time, self etching primer and a couple coats of paint and clear.

You don't need to remove the paint that is on there in fact it will provide a good surface for the new paint to stick to. All you need to do is rough up the surface a little with a 3M pad (the redish purple one) and then paint them.

I would do 3 coats.

Well with my baby boy crying, I didn't have time to tape. What I did was, sand the area that was getting paint. Then took some grease and did the area that wasn't getting painted. Wiped the rims down with acid tone and painted them. After they all dried, I wiped away the grease and cleaned the excess grease off with cleaner. Thanks a lot!

Did you take the wheels off to do each one? Is that silver or white inside? What grit sand paper? What paint? How many coats? Thinking about doing mine the same way. Do you have a zoomed in pic of a wheel?

Also, anybody know if it's ok to paint brake calipers? I would like them red.

What paint? used auto paint by rustoleum, got it at wal mart in the auto section How many coats? 2 coats. Thinking about doing mine the same way. Do you have a zoomed in pic of a wheel? No I don't.

I know they are but, you asked what to use to clean them first with. I'm saying to clean it before you sand them, use a chrome wheel cleaner, it's stronger. Then after sanding them, wipe it down with either one, to prep it for paint or primer. Has to have a oil/dirt free surface. Then you good to go..
