Just had the transmission rebuilt... Now this is leaking.... Is that suspicious?

Bolts don't look like they have been removed recently

There is a yellowish fluid leaking around here. Is that transfer case fluid?

If I'm correct the T-case uses ATF which should be a red-pink color. they would remove Entire trans to rebuild it I would think, but they wouldn't touch the seals. If I remember correctly though the seals are fairly inexpensive to fix and take very little time to do (30 min +). Id bring it up to the shop and see what they say.

Wait a second Let me take a look at my runner quick that may be your main seal and in that case you may want to ask them about it. The fluid still should be a red color so it may just be residual assembly oil/grease.

Na. I think you are mistaken The T-Case in my 5speed Takes regular gear oil I use amsoil 75-90w.... but it could be different for others.

What it looks like is leaking is the rear seal, just after the pinion flange. It's not hard to replace by yourself, [MENTION=44220]BigFishAllDay[/MENTION] did a write up on how to change the front and back.

It could also be from the shifter, if they didn't put it on right, or when they took it off.


Quick little tip:

Gears use Oil. Manual transmissions, t-cases, and diffs.

Automatic transmissions, while they have gears, are run by synchros. Anything automatic like that, is going to use ATF.

Good tip, I'll keep it in mind. I ran into confusion because of experiences i have had in the past. Our saturn 5spd called for atf so therefore all use atf in my mind :nono:

It's all good man. LOL. If I had this Govvie hooked up to a TV screen, I'd be good. But I have to scroll all the way across the damn page to get be able to see the picture.

Load the pictures straight through Tap-A-Talk. that's what I ususally do. If you're using an app, there should be a setting for the size of the pictures that are getting uploaded.

I pulled the fill plug out of the t case and fluid started coming out, so I am assuming that means it's full?

I am finding oil up at the top of the bell housing... Would this be normal for a seal leak? This can't be a cracked housing or something right? Seems to be riding fine....
