OME lift kit questions.

I have a 2000 4runner and am planning on installing a OME lift kit. I am going with the 3inch lift. My question is do I need to get anything else then what is in the kit. I heard possibly replacing the upper control arms. Did anyone need to do this. What about anything else. I am planning on doing this in a few weeks just trying to get ahead of this project. Please let me know thanks all.

I have read most of it and the pros and cons of different lifts. I am pretty much set on the OME unless someone talks me out of it. I trust a friend of mine and he swear by them. But I am just trying to figure out if alignment is an issue after the installation. I was told about possible replacing the upper control arms during installation helps but wanted to ask around on here. Thanks for the feed back. You are all a lot of help.

you don't need upper control arms (you do need an alignment after), you will likely be replacing your CV axles shortly after or reclamping. I had to do my inner and outer tie rods within about a month of both 3" lifts i did. You might break a sway bar link or two during the install and make sure you have clearance if you go with 33"s as you may need spacers or proper offset to not rub on the stock UCAs.

good luck :) Personally i hated my OME ride. Way too stiff, i switched both lifts out for LC coils in the back and preferred the bilsteins up front. But to each their own, i like a smooth cadillac style ride.

I am going to do a front diff drop so I hope that helps. I don't know much about lc coils. At the same time i don't mind the ride of a truck. Thanks again man

I have the 3" OME setup and like it, it is stiff but I don't mind that. You will definitely need an alignment after the install. You may need to replace the CV shafts and boots but if they are originals you would probably have to do that anyway. I didn't replace the UCA's but you could if you wanted different ones I guess but it's not necessary.

You don't need UCA's. Better off getting wheel spacers. That's what I did, a lot cheaper and also looks better with a wider stance. Get spidertrax if you do. Like mentioned above, OME is pretty stiff that's why I ended up with Toytec coilovers and rear bilsteins but I have OME rear coils and like them. Good luck with install. Definitely get an alignment after.

Lets make one thing clear about this. You may or may not need wheel spacers. No offense to anyone on here, but don't take our advice on this. I was told that I needed wheel spacers to clear 285/75/16's, and I bought them. After my alignment I found out I didn't need them. The best advice I can give on this, is not to buy spacers at the beginning. Get your alignment, and see how it is first. Or, get spacers to have on stand by, and return them if they're not needed. UCA's do provide more benefit than just being able to get you front aligned.

If you run OME 881's with the 90004 OME comfort sport shock it wont be too stiff. Its stiffer than stock but its not bad at all. My buddy runs the toytec coilover front and its stiff as hell. He always mentions how stiff it feels on dirt roads as where my truck feels great. If any stiffer shock or heavier ome coil is ran it gets real stiff.

If you like having a saggy looking rear end than you are good with the ome's. If you want a little rake and better flex offroad look into 7 wrap coils or superflex coils. As soon as my buddy installed his toytec lift kit with the ome rear coils he wanted new ones.

The spacers are to clear the upper control arm when at full droop. They like to hit and rub like crazy when serious offroading. It would actually start to cut into my tires. On the road no problem.

I'm perfectly aware of what they're for. Your statement just made what I said 100% accurate. Your tires rub, and my tires don't. I doesn't matter how far I stuff my tires in the wells, they don't rub. I doesn't matter how much I let the drop, they don't rub.

This is exactly what I'm warning the OP about. Different people have different outcomes, and tires fit differently on other 4runners.

Cool story bro.

Agreed. You may or may not need spacers. I have 285/75/16s and after my lift I couldn't even get the tip of my pinky in between my uca and tire. So yes, you might need them. Chances are you will, but always the possibility you won't ever rig differs. But it's nice having all the clearance he spacers give you for the price and ease of install. Better route than uca IMO. For money and time installing anyways.

I like the OME lift. I got 881's up front and 890s in the back. Running bilstein shocks with them. Definitely a stiffer ride than with stock coils and KYB struts/shocks.

You'll want a diff drop for the sake of your CVs. And need to get an alignment for the sake of your tires and road manners.

I ordered 2nd gen rear swaybar links for mine, as they're about an inch or two longer. I couldnt get my rear swaybar back on after the lift using stock links. Pretty cheap from rock auto, ordered em for like a 1995 4runner.

Panhard drop bracket or an adjustable panhard bar might be nice, too. It'll help get your rear axle all squared up after the lift. Although ya dont NEED this, if ya got the money, might be worth a buy.

Let me inject a little into this conversation.

Your profile says Alaska (roads with holes the size of bowling balls) and you are looking an an OME kit. The OME kits are very rugged and the quality has been proven time and time again. but you don't have to hammer you spine and go with an OME kit. you should look at the Toytec BOSS kit HERE not only is it cheaper than the OME kit, but it will ride MUCH better and it is rebuildable. Also worth mentioning, it does not require you to compress the springs to re-use your old top plates, it is literally a bolt in kit. I have to mention (just because) it is American Made also.

Like I said OME is good, and rugged and will last, but you can get that from TOYTEC and a good ride, with US customer support. even shipped to AK the BOSS kit is less than 1200 buck.

at the end of the day the choice has to be yours, and either kit will be quality, but only one wont hammer your spine and can be rebuilt in the US

Thanks all for the help. The kit is being shipped as we speak and will post pictures when it is done. It will take a few weeks since it has to be sent on a cargo ship since I live on a small rock in alaska. I bought just the kit and whatever I need I will figure it out when it comes. Best way to not buy unneeded parts. I will post pictures soon. If anyone else has any more help I will never turn it down.

What kit did you get, just curious?? I am happy with my OME lift for what it's worth, and I did not need aftermarket UCA's or wheel spacers to tuck, stuff, wheel 285/70s Maxxis Bighorns. I like the Toytec kit as well as a few other suspension setups, but overall the reliability is there either way. Mine works great for wheeling and daily driving. Not rough and not bouncy. Very firm setup and feels good at all speeds and terrains.
