Opinion: Push or Pull Fan for Transmission Cooler

I think it's the B&M 70264. Don't bet your kid with that info though. But that looks and sounds right. I've had it or years. Again, I can't seem to see any model numbers on either of them.

I don't believe they are stamped anywhere. You can measure it to get an idea based on size. What made you get rid of your 4589?

Puller fan all the way, even if you have to fab brackets to make it fit.

I believe I took it out because it didn't have the internal bypass in it. That's the only reason I can think of.... That isn't anywhere close to 1 1/2" thick so maybe it wasn't the 4589.

Ya the 4589 does have the internal bypass which is why I was looking at it.

What temps are you seeing with your 4490? I believe that's slightly bigger than the 4589 I was looking at? In series or bypass?

I have a 98, only 99+ model years can monitor transmission temperatures. I can tell you than unlike the previous owner, I am not burning the transmission fluid now with the supercharger like he did. It also takes longer for the transmission fluid to come up to temperature though (shifts high in the winter mornings) but I don't live in a super cold climate so there's no excessive wear.

As promised. You can't see much, but it's there. Once I get my dual temp gauge installed I'll start testing and recording readings. One thing that I did do that I forgot to mention was I did make sure I had a 3/8" - 1/2" gap from the back of the cooler to the AC. As it is now, set up as a pusher fan I didn't want it to try to push "through" both sets of fins causing resistance:

Regarding the people who have them in series with the original cooler.... Aren't you worried about the milkshake? That was the original reason why people were putting on these coolers. When I first did mine, a Strawberry Milkshake thread was popping up every week over on Yotatech.

Have you guys changed out your radiators so you don't need to worry about it?

I flushed the coolant and replaced my radiator as a preventative measure about 3 months ago as it was still the original, going strong at 230K miles. Im installing the trans cooler as an experiment to see if my temps will remain below 200F post install. During a recent 1600 mile trip, it mostly remained at 185F but did climb up to 220F when I hit rush hour traffic on the way home.
