Overland Expo EAST 2015

I'm going to try to make it up for the experience but if nothing else I'm coming for the day. Is it worth doing the experience with a mostly stock SR5 4WD? I hope to have some upgrades by then but my mountain bike racing budget tends to eat into everything else. :hungry:

Oh yeah, I would definitely rather hang out with 4Runners. Most Jeepers think they are God's gift to dirt and mud. That gets old pretty quick.

My girlfriend wants to spend Thursday night camping on the beach so I don't think I will be able to caravan down there with anybody, but I will be there Friday morning camping on site for the duration of the Overland Experience.

Haha, after a few years of rude common sensical entertainment I might just have to buy a drink for that guy though. Something distilled at 9600 feet I think...

The mods (or lack of) have really nothing to do with anything up there (except for jealous looks). In most of the driving courses they have stock LR's to drive with street tires, so your stock SR5 will be fine. Last year only a few of the classes involved actual driving. Most were a "class" enviroment and if they involved vehicles, demo vehicles were used.

Bring your mountain bike if you do the experiance. Depending on where you camp, there is a lot of walking and good size hills.

I have little to no overland or wheeling knowledge and I'm hoping this will be a good time to learn how to properly use my truck. Learning recovery, trail reading, and how to drive are what I'm hoping for.

Sigh... I'll be in Yuma, AZ for WTI... I'm never gonna get to go to one of these things...

I'll be bringing one of my bikes even though I keep a nice longer travel bike in Asheville already, likely won't have it at the expo though. I'll be getting at least a few days of riding in after this... I grew up riding around there so my buddy and I will likely do 3-4hr rides every day extra I stay.

Yeah, that's bad luck, in NC when Overland West was in AZ, in AZ when Overland East is in NC...
 
I'm trying to work out a way to go and possibly pick up my cousin as a co-pilot along the way. After I got him to read about what was offered last year, I think he may be more excited than I am about going. Now to convince his wife...
 
It's educational!

While picnicking on the side of a mountain with the kids I casually mentioned to my wife how awesome it would be to have a nice awning to roll out given the bright sun. She responds "Yeah that would be nice". :kiss:

Just a matter of when not if now...
 
My wife and I will be there with are flat water Kayaks and Bikes. We're planning on camping so I'm in for a group camp.
 
We're going! We'll be convoying with the local FJ group. 10-15 FJ's and 3-5 4runners so far. When it gets closer I'll post up on here where the meet up is and times associated with that, it would be awesome to get a MASSIVE Toyota convoy going in and camping together. Haven't decided on Thursday or Friday convoy yet.

And as far as the overland experience goes, I've been told to NOT do the full package by a few friends that have been, said they were good for beginners but if you are halfway experienced and/or have a good head on your shoulders you won't learn anything and to save my money. But to each there own I guess.

What if I am a beginner? :D Figure if I'm driving out from Colorado, I'm doing it all! Plus with my son over at my folks house I'll have time to kill.
 
We got our passes last night, cant wait for it to get here now. Wife is excited too, she approved the purchase of a RTT! Picking it up this weekend. I just looked over her shoulder while she was on the iPad, she's looking at awnings. looks like I've got some work to do before we go.

That is awesome, I'll probably get an awning before. I kinda want an RTT but I will probably wait until next year. I hope you have one so I can check it out!

oh I will have it! :thumb:

I took my rack off the market, bolted it on, and have plans to pick it up this weekend. The company that sells them will be out there with us and a few of the local FJ guys run them also.
