Oversized spare tire not fitting under Trail Edition?

I keep forgetting to ask if others have encountered this.

My spare tire (285/70-17 Nitto on a Countersteer-X rim) hits against the over-sized sway bar of my TE. When I winch it up into place it's actual a wedge fit between the sway bar and the tire locating guides at the back of the truck. I'm little concerned about this affecting the KDSS or rubbing a notch in the spare.

Can someone put my mind at ease or tell me how to stop the rubbing?

How wedged of a fit is it? This is probably sure to piss someone off but I ran into this on one of my previous cars, and to correct it I just ran the tire on the car for like 5 thousand miles, it wore it enough that it didn't touch anymore when i rotated it up to the spare position. I'm talking barely but hey ya do what works.

I have konig and nitto all terrain. Fits nice and snug. Also, when i got it back from discount tire, they had wedged lopsided, ie, did not seat completely in the wheel well. A little fanagling helped it slip right in.

I've got the same wheels and tire size only with Duratracs. When I had the tires mounted the tech told me it wouldn't fit so they just threw it in the rear.

I got home and put it up myself just fine on my TE with about 1/2" of clearance on both sides of the rear sway bar. The only thing I would recommend is while you are cranking it up at the same time grab the tire from underneath and pull it towards the rear of the vehicle and it should give you enough clearance.

So far I've noticed no rubbing issues with the rear sway bar.

Can the "tire locating guides at the back of the truck" be removed or maybe bent out of the way?

Ttn333 - what size tire do you have? 265 would fit, but 275 or 285 would be bigger.

Thanks!

If you can't get it to fit, deflate the tire a bit. Just make sure you have some on-board air in case you need it.

this. I have a 285 BFG MT in my spare slot and did exactly this. no problems.

does anybody know the biggest diameter ? i have to get a new spare .the new tires are 32.5 inches in diameter . don't wanna order a new one until i am sure it will fit ..

specs in the sig.

thanks

havent checked yet

Hopefully a 275/55/20 will fit. Havent got them yet but that may sway me to keep stock tires.

Same here with 17" Mojave and 285/70/17 Duratrac's. Fits in stock space and has about 1/2" clearance to sway bar.

How far does your tire extend down below the bottom bumper line/hitch? I've got a good amount showing that wasn't there with the stock spare/tire.

How is everyone locking/securing their spare to prevent theft? I've read a bunch of threads/links and it would appear a bicycle cable is the simpliest (and custom locks for spares are the most "advanced") but I'm sure there are other soutions. Anyone?

Securing spare

Why would you need to have a security device on your spare? When it is cranked up to the standard position the only way to access the lowering device is when the rear hatch is up, as that is where the access hole for the crank is located. When I had a Tacoma I used a special locking device that fit on the end of the crank, somewhat like a wheel lock you use on your mounted tires.

So you don't have a recommendation/solution?
