Owner shoots bad guys trying to steal 4Runner

Threads like this shatter my faith in the future of our society. Seriously, reading this depressed me.

The sad part is that this is what society is becoming, no way around it. I for one wouldn't think twice about doing what I had to do in order to keep my family and property safe. You know the saying..."I'd rather be judged by 12 then carried by 6." It really is sad to see how much society has changed over the years, it's incredible.

Reality:We can't see into the future but only learn from our past.Violence has been around for as long as man and will be until the day we die. We,as free Americans have the right to defend ourselves and our loved ones against evil and violence unlike many people in other parts of the world and in the past. Just google "history of violence" to see it is just in the nature of some men and you never know when you might come across them.Cower and die or defend yourself and what's yours to the best of your ability are our choices and I'm glad I can make that choice.

Did you listen to or read the part "he thought one of the men also had a gun". The dude abided by the law and none of us were actually there to know what happened.

For the record ....I wouldn't have shot them unless I thought they had a weapon and/or feared for mine or my families safety. Killing men for sport is not in my nature.

This true incident took place 3 blocks from my house with a guy that I work with a few years back. And I live in Suburbia USA with mile after mile of subdivisions ,not in the hood. He lost his arm to just above the elbow and almost died from being stabbed and his arm blown off and the other guy never was caught. He hesitated, yelled for his wife to call the police and the guy pulled out a knife ......he said he wouldn't hesitate next time. He had tools in the trailer that he worked hard for for years to start his own business to better his families life. I personally think he had the right to defend his property in his driveway and support the law.Watauga homeowner stabbed, shot with own gun during robbery | The TexasFred Blog

Agreed
Shooting someone for breaking into a vehicle is not right. It's just an object.
Breaking into someone's home and threatening life, that is another subject.

People protecting themselves and their property from criminals concerns you?

Put away the straw man, that's not what they're talking about. There's people in this thread actually advocating the death penalty for being caught stealing. That's not pulling the trigger in the heat of the moment, that's taking a humans life in cold blood as retribution for taking another person's property.

I hope the people in question are just tough-talking keyboard heroes, because otherwise it's mind-boggling, and more than slightly disturbing.

Some even seem to suggests to do so without due process even of it could be afforded.

The thieves took that risk upon themselves when they decided to break in to this guy's truck. Why are we making the victim of this whole thing the bad guy? I worked very hard for my 4Runner, years in fact. If I were to see someone breaking into my car and possibly trying to steal it, I'd confront them if I was armed. Depending on how they reacted I wouldn't have a problem defending myself/my property by shooting them.

And I just want to add...

What's a better deterrent than being shot for such a thing? If I hear about people losing their lives trying to just steal the stereo out of a car I might think twice about doing it myself!

Anyone that does something like this knows they run the risk of getting injured or even killed. If they choose to proceed, they made their own decision.

I'd consider the 5th and 8th amendments here. This isn't to say you wrong or your feelings unreasonable, just that there are some implications.

You guys are trying to form an opinion without knowledge of details. Were those criminals a teenagers making mistake or hardened criminals who have guns and don't hecitate to use it? Sometimes you could do a favour for a society if you shot a criminal who might not think twice killing people for thing less expensive than a vehicle. You might even save a couple of lifes by killing a criminal. And I guess if Texas has laws saying that you can shot a thief at your discretion - criminals know the risk and State of Texas trust their citizens to make a decision. Fair game.

What's "Due Process" in your opinion? Let me present you with a scenario and you pick the "likely" cause:

You are awakened by the sound of breaking glass. You listen more intently, then hear your dog barking at the front door. You go to investigate. You look outside your front window and see that the driver's door to your T4R is open and witness a dark figure with a flashlight feverishly searching the interior.

Based on the scenario, pick which is MOST likely occurring out of the four choices below:

A. Your neighbor who does NOT own a T4R thinks that your T4R is his, and forgot his keys.
B. Jack Bauer needs a ride to a very important appointment, and your T4R was the only way he can get there safely (national security).
C. A thief has just broken your driver's window, entered your T4R, and is trying to steal it or the interior contents.
D. Toyota Manufacturing has sent out a technician to check your T4R, and gather essential information for future T4R upgrades.

What does common sense tell you is occurring? Enquiring minds want to know.
